Re: Hall of Fame: The Philes Phertilizer Lecture
Found one of morph's posts and thought it's helpful for perspective: OK, enough of the True Neutral Wise Man crap, it never works for me. On average, if you just apply without a soil test (bad idea), the proportion per year should be around 4-1-2 on an established lawn (4 lbs N, 1 P, 2 K). For a fir...

Re: Be careful when buying from Amazon marketplace
Generally I stick with prime items as that means it's in stock in the amazon warehouse. But some items you gotta risk it.

Re: Crabgrass germination versus Pre-M timing
It's the closest thing we have but err'ed on the safe side. When you put pre-m down it should last for months so a week or two early is better than a week or two late. You also have to consider the position of the forsythia to your lawn. The one in my yard isn't popping yet, but the one in the neigh...

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Last year my neighbor decided to have their rock driveway plowed. The plow relocated the rocks all over my lawn. This year thankfully they didn't have it plowed lol

The deal appears to be gone now. And you can no longer buy it from Amazon, just 3rd parties.

Re: Watering in Tenacity
I found tenacity kills existing weeds even when applied granularly. So I think plants can pull it up through the soil.

You'll have to watch it and make changes as necessary. Personally I like using peat moss because the color change when it dries out is easy to see.

Re: Kinds of Lime
Actually the preferred type depends on your soil test result. Which I didn't know there were different types until Andy told me to find Dolomititic Lime a few years back. Even more interesting was trying to find it locally cuz every sales person said lime is lime. I think I eventually found the labe...

Re: Experience Purchasing Shrubs/Trees online?
We bought all our fruit trees and blueberry bushes online and they've been great. Stark Brothers (trees) True Vine Ranch (blueberries). While we could buy from the box stores these farms had better quality and it was "fresh". When you buy local it really depends, some locally owned nursery's take ca...

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
I fertilized the blueberry bushes. The grass is starting to really wake up. The path I made in the snow is REALLY green right now, probably because I tried using fertilizer as ice melt. (not a lot, but I saw someone say it worked so I wanted to see - long story short, not worth it and may be illegal...

Yeah it's crazy! Boston used to pay a landfill for all their poop. Then they were paying for a contract in case bay state fertilizer had a failure. Now they don't pay for anything because the facility is performing so well. So instead of paying to throw it out they are now getting money from us to p...

Re: Lawn Rolling
My personal experience, doing it myself, was negligible. I used a hand pull behind roller. Yes the soil was moist and I went over it a few times but I couldn't tell a difference before/after.
