Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Applied Prodiamine 65 WDG at 0.15oz/k in the front yard. Still no rain in So Central PA... watered the new turf and plants in the back again.

Re: Got Urea?
I get it at SiteOne Harrisburg PA. I think I paid $40 for 50lbs last year. They try to sell you timed release and get a little confused even about what they have, so press them to bring the bag out.

Re: Split app of Pre emergent
I also do a split app of Prodiamine and it seems to be working well. Look at the data sheet for what you are applying, so you know the duration of protection, and back up from typical Forsyhia blooms in your area. For my yard, I did Aug 20th in 2018, Aug 24th in 2019 and plan about the same for 2020...

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Walked the lawn today after 1+5/8" of rain last night to figure out what lawn work should be done today. Today would be a normal "mowing day" for us, being four days after the prior mowing. Seems to me that it has grown less than usual with the 85F-95F daytime highs we've had lately, but it's defin...

new fescue mix sod
I've been offline for awhile as we dealt with covid and major renovation of our kitchen and back yard. The good news is that we have our house back and the yard looks great. Given the time of year, I elected to have them put down a fescue mix sod. I've been working on a long term soil conditioning p...

Cut at 3.5" and sprayed a second application of Triclopyr. Clover and grassy weeds pretty much gone. Also, moved some sod plugs to bare spots in the front.

Applied 50lbs of Ferrous Sulfate (2.3 lbs/k) with the tractor mounted prayer. Spot sprayed glyphosate. Also, mounted and played with the Johnny Bucket as I get ready to use the new toy for tan bark this year.

It seems to be perhaps the only solution... I recommend you start by reading Ken-n-nancy's excellent journal thread on the issue:

Re: So when do we drop the PreM?
Good guidance? Nothing specific. There just comes a time around late May in my yard where the lawn seems to start to "lose its steam" and that's when I pick up with the Nitrogen efforts for the year. The people with "itchy trigger fingers" want to get outside and do something and often pull the tri...

Re: Fertilizer w/ Weed Control
My opinion... This process is a marathon. Continue to read and learn. Start with a simple pyramid approach to weeds. Next step, get a soil test from Logan Labs, so you can get a good plan. Two years from now, you will be thrilled.

Re: Prodiamine rate question
Look at page 2 for the appropiate application rates and page 3 for the reseeding instructions. If you apply correctly, it seems that a fall reseeding shouldn't be a problem.

Re: So when do we drop the PreM?
Is your lawn greened-up and beginning growth? If not, providing Nitrogen can have the effect of forcing it to break dormancy, and that can lead to stress in the short-term. Stress often rears its head as fungal disease later. If you don't wait for green-up and natural growth, and the grass DOESN'T ...
