Re: Taylor's Rear Yard - 2023

With all the stuff that the installation crew plans to do, I wouldn't do anything now (maybe except the Humichar). I would do another test AFTER 6-8 weeks after the installation. We don't want to double-up anything, and with the shape the soil is currently in, it wills be several years before we get...

Re: Spring 2023 SE Mass. Soil Test (logan Labs)...

Without an explanation of your current status or previous test result link from previous tests, I have to assume a lot, but here goes... You don't see many tests from SE Mass with 12+ TEC soil or almost or 5.7 OM%. Nice long-term success there. The low Calcium and Potassium numbers though are lackin...

OK. 2 lbs/K of SOP, 2 lbs/K of MOP and 1.75 lbs/K of Urea every month. No Urea in July or August.

Re: REPPEND's 2023 Soil Test

The people that owned the lawn-with-a-house before you weren't lawnatics, were they? The soil has OK bones, but hasn't seen a bag of fertilizer in a long time. What does that mean? It means that it's a slightly heavy soil with a lot of silt, and very good OM% numbers. You don't need to listen to my ...

Re: Adam M 2023 Soil Test

Yeah, I have some doubts too about the OM%... I'm going to be conservative due to the questionable numbers. The TEC is pointing to a heavier soil, which is OK as long as it drains OK. It will hold nutrients well if true, but you're not holding nutrients. While the Calcium and Magnesium are holding (...

Re: Soil Testing Guidelines Template - Opinions?

I don't believe that soil management can be done by a list. Every soil test that comes in has the context of its own properties that must be considered. I've tried to boil it down to formulas and ranges, but it just has too many variables. Maybe when Artificial Intelligence becomes common I'll try a...

You can alternate Milo and balanced stuff monthly on either schedule. There is nothing magical about the 60 days - you can wait for the next date scheduled if you choose to.

Re: Spacklerstyle 2023 Soil Test

I'm not surprised at all in either the test popping back to your "normal",or in Logan's handling of the matter... I see a heavy calcareous soil and the reason for the pH and TEC. I've also got to admit that I think differently about the solution. Yeah, the MAP and STP and it all sounds like the scie...

Ummm, yeah. Please note that there is a big difference between the 30 lbs/K that we used to apply and the fast-acting stuff. The stuff is not the same ol' garden Gypsum

Morph, you're making be think, and it hurts...

If I were trying the Gypsum trick, I would have tried a test patch for 2 weeks. I don't think Gypsum is gonna cause Chlorosis, but I would have tested the idea. But that's me.

Re: Spacklerstyle 2023 Soil Test

How could it change so drastically like that? It can't - unless you sent a limestone boulder to Logan. That's exactly what I'd expect to see if somebody didn't do an AA test, when an AA test was warranted. Call Susan at Logan Labs and ask for a retest if they have enough soil left from your samples...

Ummm, how to put this gently...

I don't think the offender is deer pee. More likely it is deer-doo. It happens that I get deer a dozen at a time, and I find the evidence that matches deer pellets.

SOP doesn't force top growth, so you're fine to go when you'd like.

For the very same reasons (avoiding applications during stressful period), you can apply any non-freezing weather.

Re: Quackgrass are Back

R2K, I've used Certainty for Poa Triv, but not Quackgrass. I can't say for sure whether a couple of treatments (what they recommend) finishes the job in one season. My experience with the product and research indicates that it works best when the first treatment is near the "stressful heat", and fol...

Re: Quackgrass are Back

"Certainty" is labelled for Quackgrass, but it isn't exactly a cheap product (although "Sertay" generic is cheaper), so I'd get a Cooperative Extension to say that you have in fact Quackgrass. Upon validation, try "Certainty/Sertay" on it (if you haven't already tried it). Please follow up with us i...

If the "super green" spots are greening up, you can hit the lawn with Nitrogen.

You can do whatever you like - it's your lawn... We (Morph and I) create plans for you based on location, irrigation, grass type and experience level, and especially an intention to do no harm even if you make a small mistake in applications. In your case, I chose (as did Morph last year) once a mon...
