Re: Fertilizing a mixed TTTF/KBG lawn
I will repeat what I learned the hard way.... NO NITROGEN!!!! NONE!! Not Vitamin M, Not Milk, not Grain, etc.... If you want to drop stuff - drop NON-nitrogen things... Phosphate, Potash, Minor elements, Lime, Iron, etc... These are beneficial. I also found SUMA-critter slush stuff to be beneficial...

Re: Overseed small, thinning TTTF lawn with KBG?
I don't buy the allelopathy thing about rye. [snip] Point being, it's not actually impossible like people make it sound. All that allelopathy BS must be one of those Ph D. and Dr. of Turf Agronomy fallacies. Just blather, based on no research or experience! Conversion of Ryegrass Fairways to Bluegr...

Re: Overseed small, thinning TTTF lawn with KBG?
Since you need only a pound or two of seed costing $10 at most, what have you got to lose by trying to overseed now and fill in some bare spots? I would use a 90/10 TTTF/KBG blend. All KBG now is unrealistic, as KBG takes too long to establish. If anything, I would throw some PRG in the mix for the...

Re: How do you know what kind of grass you have?
I still have a hard time identifying sometimes. I can recognize KBG, but alway have a hard time between Fescue and PR. Really? PR is more like KBG than TTTF. Both have a central midrib, both have a fused tip. TTTF has a pointed tip, no central midrib, and obvious veins or ridges that run the length...

Re: Applying 2nd round of dimension soon
Yes, that's the label indeed. But some other products have many more programs listed, I believe. At least that's what I've been led to believe by this site. It appears the OP dropped the recommended 2.4 lbs/K to get 2-3 months protection. That would bring it to June-July. However, the bag does not t...

Re: Fertilizing a mixed TTTF/KBG lawn
To echo Han's one-line reply but elaborate bit: As I understand it, becasue TTTF requires somewhat less N, and it's a mixed stand, you can get away with a bit less N than pure KBG, but a bit more than a pure TTTF stand needs. The fescue can definitely tolerate fertilizing again in the spring in addi...

Re: Applying 2nd round of dimension soon
Everything he needs to know is printed on the bag label of the product he is using.....length of coverage based on the lb/K applied, time til an overseed, everything.Without reading the bag label of the product used, all we can do is wild [banned word] guess. Actually, having used the same product, I ...

Re: Applying 2nd round of dimension soon
I applied Hi-Yield Dimension to my lawn on April. 5th. The product contains 0.125% of Dithiopyr. My lawn is only 5,000 sq. ft. so i just needed one 12 lb. bag. I'm trying to figure out when to apply another bag of this stuff to get me through September. I will be overseeding my lawn in September so...

Re: Interesting Results from Overseed after 8 Months
Well, it turns out the fescue is actually still there the whole time. Thing was, it's so fine-bladed and low-growing for the most part, that a lot of it was hiding under the KBG and Rye. It also doesn't tiller as fast as rye does, apparently.

Re: If you don't water in Milorganite...
Urea has a tendency to volatilize, and Lime reacts in a manner that exacerbates it. As always, there is healthy caution and there is r-e-a-l-y cautious. I have put down Lime and Milorganite without incident, but if you care to be more cautious, space it out. I'm still following the "Y" rule only fo...

Re: Should I stress my Triv?
I had like 30 spots a month ago; sprayed with ~1.0% 2,4-D and a little triclopyr, and they're basically gone now. Turned brown within 2 days, and now the brown spots are disappearing as KBG fills in. Still have other Triv intermixed with good grass, but not patches anymore. We shall see if they retu...

Re: Interesting Results from Overseed after 8 Months
Here are pics of the other lawn: First up is March 2012 before dormancy was broken. Most of that grass is PR. http://s14.postimg.cc/b1b1oy3wt/Lawn_B_March_2012.jpg And May 2013, 8 months post overseed (went heavy on the TTTF, maybe 6 lbs/K, but again, a lot of it appears to be KBG here, too, I think...

Re: Interesting Results from Overseed after 8 Months
My guess is the PR out-competed the TF, and the cocktail set back the TF. This allowed the PR to dominate ant the KBG to spread. Once TF gives up it's done. Seeds only come frome super tall stalks, and no spreading. Combine that with CT weather where TF is not favored and it starts to make sense (t...

Re: Interesting Results from Overseed after 8 Months
Interesting. Now, can you overseed KBG into a lawn that is TTTF or TTPR WITHOUT killing it off and be successful? I had read all the stuff here on allelopathy of PR prior to the overseed, so I decided had better do something quite drastic, because there was no way I was going to accept failure with...

Re: My summer 2013 Goals and timing - please evaluate
Getting close now... Ok, let's say I decide to test the back sepearately because I'm renovating it this fall... I have topsoil/compost I'm going to be spreading (an inch or two). Do I mix a bit of that with the existing subsoil for the soil test, or do I just test the subsoil alone? I'm thinking th...

Re: Interesting Results from Overseed after 8 Months
Close-ups from this morning: (These are representative samples of the lawn. I see all three types of grass in my photos (actually 4 counting fine fescue), but less fescue, and more KBG and PR). In these three, you cen definitely see KBG and TTPR. And yes, before anyone points out shredded tips, the ...

Re: Interesting Results from Overseed after 8 Months
significant P Rye, virtually no one on the board has been able to do it and there are lots of university and golf course studies where they tried and tried and failed. +1 JG. I'm one of the tried-and-tried failures - I had a PR lawn and tried to "convert by overseeding" three or four times. The res...
