First Mow of Season, Bag or Mulch?
I usually bag my first mow of the season and mulch thereafter. Any advantage or disadvantage or is it personal preference to bag or not bag on first mow? Wanted to see what the experts thoughts are.

Re: Possibly looking to upgrade my spreader
I have the Earthway 2600. 16K square feet. I’m pushing something through it just about every week. 3 years running and no issues. Pushes easily, good height of handles, easy to clean, lightweight, holds plenty of product, inexpensive. I use fertilizing days as cardio days, great little workout for t...

Re: A "Worm Apocalypse"? Really?
I have lots of trees, a good OM of 6+, worms up the ying yang and drop peat moss twice a year. Haven’t done the sawdust yet but hopefully this year. I don't want to lose the OM I have and would love to increase it.

Re: Lonnie's 2019 Soil Test
Great results, visually. Most notably, the fall regimen. Snow only melted a couple weeks ago but my lawn came through the heavy snow load with flying colors. Best recovery from winter so far (only 3 winters though). SOP and TSP were easy to find. The Milo worked great for greening it up even with th...

I had original submitted my first soil test in late Summer 2017. Andy gave me the plan but suggested ammonium acetate tes...

Milorganite Now 32# Bag
Checked price for Milorganite on Truevalue and Ace Hardware websites. Both describe Milorganite as a 32 lb. bag, not 36. Prices may have stayed the same from last year but they’re shorting us 4 lbs. Bummer!

Re: What's Your Winter Hobby?
I stick with the year round exercise routine, read lots of books, hit the gun range, do some travel and plenty of snow shoveling. Right now I have lawn burn-out but by February I’ll be chewing at the bit.

My winter HOC is 2”. My summer HOC is 3.5”. The third week of August I drop to 3”. Three weeks later down to 2.5” wth the final drop to 2” on October 1st. Seems to work well for my lawn. My last cut of the year Is usually the last week of October.

Mowed, probably for the last time this season. Been six days since last mow and cut at most a quarter inch. I’ll throw the bag on Saturday and see if it’s still growing. My guess is I’ll be winterizing Sunday.

Re: Any Signs of Rust?
I got hit, again. This year the rust materialized in late August, even though I was diligent with my serenade apps all season, oh well. It was not as prevalent as last season without serenade. Grass seemed to outgrow the fungus. Only real sign was the powder on the mower and my shoes from mowing. I ...
