Re: Using someone else's leaves

There are people who drive around in the fall looking for bags of leaves to bring home and mow into their lawns.

I don't see any reason to let all that fantastic organic matter go to waste. I say you should go for it.

Re: What's happening where you live?

We've had another month of above average precipitation. It's still not enough to reverse the years of drought we've had, but it's encouraging. It'll be interesting to see how mutch the reservoirs have recovered once the snow melts. On the downside, there's a good chance we'll have extensive flooding.

Re: What's happening where you live?

We've been having a good year in terms of precipitation. There is now a sliver of the state that is not in drought at all. It's only 2.65% of the state, but we'll take what weer can get. And 0% of the state is in exceptional drought. And only 3.89% in extreme drought (down from more than 50% 3 month...

Re: Home Brewing

I've bought quite a bit from them and always had good results. They have free shipping on most things for orders over $59 (I think that's the threshold, anyway; I stocked up awhile ago and haven't ordered recently). If I remember correctly, they've got locations in different parts of the country, so...

Re: What's happening where you live?

It was cold earlier this week, but warmed up a bit.

Unfortunately, we've currently got an inversion, so pollution it's really bad. But we're supposed to get a couple of storms in there next few days, which should clear the air.

Happy new year

Chúc mừng năm mới!

新年快乐!

I cheated on the Chinese version and used Google translate. I can say it (but not much more) in mandarin and Cantonese, but can't read or write.

But I did the Vietnamese version on my own.

Re: What's happening where you live?

Fortunately, we've been getting more than average precipitation most of this water year (October 1 through b September 30). Salt lake has risen a foot so far (still low, but that's a big improvement). The snowpack is almost 200% of average (to date), but we need that to continue, and one good year w...

Re: 2023: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today (Cool Season)

Its been warm (for January) and dry for a few days, so most od the snow has melted. It's supposed to start snowing tonight and there's a good chance of rain and/or snow every day for the next week or so

I took advantage of the calm between the storms to spread some humic dg.

Re: A couple of snow on the ground questions

My lawn is pretty flat. I got the seeds down and most of the snow melted, but didn't get around to the humic acid. We've since gotten a lot of snow. Even though the lawn is flat, with this much snow, depending on how it melts, there could still be a lot od runoff, so I think I'll hold off until spri...

Re: 2022: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Spread spent grains from my last brew day. It was a while, so there was some mold.

Re: A couple of snow on the ground questions

The forecast changed and included 1-4 inches of snow this afternoon to tomorrow morning.

So I put down seed especially in the bare areas.

I'll probably spread humic acid in the next few days.

Re: Home Brewing

There's another system similar to Mr beer. Brewdemon.com. Actually, brewdemon was started by former mr beer employees after coopers (an Australian company) bought mr beer. So it's probably closer to the kits I started with in terms of ingredients (but different equipment). Brewdemon actually looks ...

Re: A couple of snow on the ground questions

Thanks. Some of the snow has melted (especially in the areas that have the least grass). We're supposed to have a few more days above freezing so maybe I'll wait and see if a little more melts. Either way, I'll spread some humic acid and seeds in the next few days. I don't expect great germination f...

A couple of snow on the ground questions

I've got a few inches of snow on the ground and I've got a couple of questions. Can I spread Humic DG on top of the snow (more snow will follow) and let it go into the soil in the spring? In the past, I've done dormant seeding by strewing seed before the first major snow. Can I spread seed on top of...

It's actually not all that complex, but all grain and partial mash brewing are time consuming.

Let's spread some joy

I'm a cynic and don't usually do things like this, but . . . I recently read about 2 different requests for Christmas cards that I thought I'd pass onn. https://whdh.com/news/95-year-old-ri-man-asking-for-christmas-cards-this-season/ https://www.similkameenspotlight.com/community/kamloops-attack-vic...
