No rain Yesterday. Except for leaves that have completely buried the new grass.

Re: 'New' House old lawn Restoration 2020
The rear lawn continues to thicken up. I mulched some leaves on it and had to set the mower at about an inch so the leaves didn't escape. So it got cut for the first time. It almost looks like normal turf in places and is darkening up nicely. It is very dry, we've had 6/10 of an inch of rain since S...

Re: How much fertilizer should I put down now
It is my understanding that you don't have an irrigation system. Based on that I would say the answer to your question is none. Until next Tuesday when there is a possibility of rain. If you monitor this possible rain, then you can apply immediately prior to. The amount? I"ll leave to others.

Why is it not being released for homeowners? Are there potential environmental problems? Is the active chemical dangerous in some way?

For most biological beneficial activity that we are interested in 50 degrees F seems to be the magic number. Probably there is some minimal activity down to 32 degrees.

Re: 'New' House old lawn Restoration 2020
Little by little this rear lawn keeps coming along. When you look out the window or walk on it, it looks like a real lawn. It is filled with thousands of germinating weed seeds, mostly creeping charly and spurge. I spot sprayed tenacity everywhere I saw weeds this week. There is quite a bit of trivi...

Re: Large poa annua patch
I recently sowed KBG into dead Poa Trivialis thatch/stubble some of it was like a mat. Where I removed it I got much better germination. It is too soon to tell if I got adequate germination in the mats. The seedlings are far behind in those areas. I am currently redoing another 8,000 sq. ft area. My...

Re: 'New' House old lawn Restoration 2020
These two pictures are a fair representation of current growth. The seedlings are between 16 and 21 days old. Even in the old trivialis stubble I got enough germination that I believe in time it will fill in nicely. After I seeded down I did no irrigation. The seed just sat there for ten days, then ...

Re: 'New' House old lawn Restoration 2020
Andy Maybe not to early to mow the leaves, but maybe too soon. The new seedlings still seem too delicate to run the mower over them. I think the wheels and blade suction might tear them up and also the chopped leaves would cover them. I might be wrong. I'm saving them for later use. I'm planning on ...

Re: 'New' House old lawn Restoration 2020
I bought a Poulan gas powered leaf blower today. I have a giant soft maple that has been shedding leaves and it seems way to soon to try a mower on them. It took around a half hour to blow off the 19k, what a great purchase. I never used one before because my old lawn was to small to justify a leaf ...

Can the Earthway sprayer be modified with pneumatic tires? Also the handles look flimsy. Does anyone have one that can comment? I've got the same hill problems.

KBG Fungus prevention Best Practice?
I am venturing into a KBG lawn and have very little experience with bluegrass, I see many posts of various molds and mildews and the problems they can cause. I am aware that it is much easier to do preventive treatments versus post infection cure treatment. I also note a myriad of various concoction...

Re: 'New' House old lawn Restoration 2020
Andy I'm ignorant on many subjects. This clay drains well because it is on a pretty steep hillside. I know clay has great potential, this stuff you could fire pottery with it. It just surprised me to see the KBG doing well so far with it. I expected and feared it wouldn't do well. I have been applyi...

Re: Sept 20 Update - No signs of Life
The ryegrass is in a lawn that I never renovated. I have oversown it with Fiesta the last two years. It goes dormant and looks like straw, but comes right back after fall rain. I'm not suggesting it as a permanent solution. If you seed immediately it will establish in several weeks, and your good un...

Re: 'New' House old lawn Restoration 2020
I'm pretty encouraged with my seeding. Everyday there is more green showing, it almost looks like I have a lawn (rear lawn). So far it looks like enough general germination that in time it will all fill in. A lot of the soil is horrible sub-soil clay left over from a new septic system 2 years ago. I...

Re: Sept 20 Update - No signs of Life
s1mpl3k1d I live in Northwestern Illinois as well. If you overseed with perennial rye now, and begin to water it you can probably get it established. I had the same or worse drought than you, I have a perennial rye/kbg lawn that looks beautiful right now, and I never irrigated all summer. Whatever h...
