__JT’s__2016_backyard_renovation_week_7_pics
New to this site. It’s a great resource. This summer I’m renovating my backyard. The previous owner sodded it with zoysia. That may be a great grass in a different part of country, but in Mass, it has a really long dormancy, turns to beige. My son calls it Chernobyl. So now that I’m done with planti...

Re: Renovation Class Of 2016: Roll Call !!!
I’m in. I’m changing a 10k zoysia lawn to northern mix one section at a time. Last year I had a landscaper do the first 2k section with lesco northern mix, and it came out good. This year, I’m doing the next 4k of section, in back yard. This will be my first renovation. Knock on wood. The grass is h...

Re: Using Tenacity to suppress zoysia in northern mix
Thanks all. I appreciate the feedback, it helps to get a handle on which direction to go with this… The over-seed was originally intended as a cover crop, as the lawn got torn up by a some grading and bobcat tracks last autumn. With the back yard not in good shape to begin with, I had the landscaper...

Using Tenacity to suppress zoysia in northern mix
Unfortunately, the previous owner of my property had it sodded with zoysia years back. I’ve been renovating it section by section. Total turf area is 10K, but the part I want to suppress this summer is 4k in backyard. I had it over-seeded last autumn with Lesco northern mix, and it’s actually fillin...

Re: Rainfall data?
I think this site is useful. http://water.weather.gov/precip/ You can plug in your address and it will book mark it. I wish you could customize the date range, but this one will go week, fortnight, and month increments. And there is a about a day/half-day lag. I just like that you can customize it t...

Re: applying lime
Gotcha. Thanks. It seems that not all dolomite lime is created equal. I mean I have been able to wrap my brain around N-P-K, so whatever I buy, I can drop it with precision (I use a scale and do the math). However, I have two different brands of Dolomite lime, with very different bag recommendations...

Re: applying lime
Thanks for responses! This site is a big help. I’m thinking of doing a logan test next year.
I think I understand now: that there would be a concentrated “dwell” period, before the lime sinks in and disperses, so ideally it makes sense to “book end” the growing season with applications. Thanks!

applying lime
First time post. I appreciate this site and I’m learning a lot. I was wondering if I could get a reality check about applying lime (I’m working with ~10K of turf area, newly renovated last autumn with “Lesco Northern Mix”). My soil test (Umass Extentsion) recommends me to put 125 lbs/K of dolomite l...
