Re: UGA Turfgrass Management iphone/touch app

dude. I am so all over that. I'm actually downloading it right now. I love my iPhone. Now it's going to be my grassPhone. This will be very useful when comparing what I see in the yard to the photos in the app.

Re: Melting Out ??Poa?? Pictures

KOG, This was an especially wet year in the northeast. (I ran my sprinkler, three times all year). I used to live in Seattle and I can tell you that Summers in Seattle are a LOT drier than what we had this spring, summer and going into fall. Your lawn is still young and getting established, which me...

Re: Effective Organic weedkiller in development

Andy, Not sure. The article is probably worth a read as it mentions several other organic products in the works from Scotts. It's a Wall Street Journal story. If you subscribe you can find it fairly easily. If not, the best way to read the story is to search google and click on the link from there. ...

Effective Organic weedkiller in development

I posted about this on the Bestlawn Facebook page. But it's worth a mention here. Apparently, Scott's is working on a herbicide based on Canadian Thistle fungus that has been shown in tests to be effective against a broad range of broadleaf weeds. The product should be in stores by 2011.

Re: Soybean meal smell...

I put it down Friday of last week and we had 3.5 inches of rain Saturday. When I go outside the smell is similar to that of wet/old grass that has been decomposing - is that what SBM smells like? How long does it last? My family isn't complaining like they do after Milorganite... Yup. It lasts for ...

My upload speed is pretty decent. Considering that Armstrong Cable is a tiny little PA-based cable company, they deliver pretty decent service.

Re: New hotel - poor Internet connection

David, Maybe your job could spring for a broadband card? That would really be the best solution and you could make the case by pointing out that it lets you do your job from wherever you happen to be. I'd go to dsl reports though and check to see if anyone has done testing from those towns. A broadb...

The SSDI (death index) normally lags current events by as much as two years. His obituary link is in my post of September 28th, 2009, 9:40 am.

He'll really be missed.

Not sure which one that is. We have a few hundred emoticons. But there is no single standard set. If you can point me in the right direction, maybe we could round something up.

Re: Quick vs. slow release fertilizer

I think you really want to build up as many carbs in the lawn's root system as you can. Using the quick release fertilizer will do that. But if it isn't too late, I'd like to make the case for your not using the slow release stuff at all (and give some background for folks who don't know the theory ...

Re: Poa Plantation Nightmare and Renovation

Andy, I'm not sure you've given the Kentucky Bluegrass time to get established. Admittedly, the KBG won't do well in dense shade. But your KBG isn't even a year old yet. Generally, it takes a good year or more before you start to see it thicken. I haven't seen your yard so I obviously can't say that...

Re: soil test results. help how bad is this?

The only thing I'll add to what BP and Morph have written is that I've read that during the first year, KBG does better with six pounds of nitrogen per 1,000 square feed (over the course of the entire year). After that, four is the norm.

Re: The Effect of Iron on KBG With Pix

Hey BP, I work on 10 & 33rd Street (halfway between the Javits Center and Penn Station/Madison Square Garden). There aren't any good Philly cheese steak places there. But there are quite a few Irish pubs. If you ever get back to Philly, you have to go to both Gino's and Pat's to get the full cheese ...

Re: The Effect of Iron on KBG With Pix

lol yeah that is a little far from me. I just happen to go to philly today to get a wiz cheese steak. They're just not the same with provolone, which seems to be what every "Philly cheesesteak" served outside PA uses. I think it's only in PA (maybe only in Philly) that you can walk up to the counte...

No?!!! :)
Well, my wife and kid really want a cat. But I'm afraid she wants it to be an indoor cat. So, unless I invite the voles inside for tea and crumpets, I think I'm out of luck.

The Vole trap idea in C&C's post look like a great idea. I'll give it a try: http://No URL SHORTENERS/1iigZy I'm open to other ideas though. So don't be shy with the suggestions.
