Re: A little confused about May fertilization
Oh, there are so many (different) aspects to your questions and the related area. First of all, the capital letter "DON'T" is for synthetics - they actually almost force growth. As we move toward organics, the answers aren't as clear. The heavier-duty organics are still probably best to avoid, but a...

Re: New Organic Broadleaf Weed Killer
"Ugly press" as in too sensitive to temperature and storage conditions."Ugly press", as in "it doesn't work"? That's too bad.

Re: PJ's Soil test is here! Please help me evaluate the changes
No, you weren't a jerk. I was just stating that in Rhode Island this is not the end of the world. New England sand isn't that terrible - all the underlying rock is inert, and the pH's fall acid mostly because of acid rain and leaching. The same sands in the more-active soils of Texas or the Southwes...

I checked on the professional sites, and the product was getting some pretty ugly press.

Re: PJ's Soil test is here! Please help me evaluate the changes
I'm not quite as pessimistic about it. No sugar-coating --- it's a lot of work and it will be ongoing, but I've seen several as bad as this improve a lot.

Re: My soil test results
No. Drive 75 is Quinclorac, and didn't have any significant effect on Poa Annua or Poa Triv. I really doubt that MSO is going to improve it from nothing to a kill.

Re: My soil test results
Just one man's opinion: I don't find bagging the clippings to be an effective way to control Poa Annua. Bagged or mulched, I find the amount of PA the following year to be about the same, if all other things are equal. Poa Trivialis is a completely different animal. If I could shout it from a mounta...

Re: PJ's Soil test is here! Please help me evaluate the changes
PJD, can you give us a synopsis of what you put down on the lawn last year? I just spent 30 minutes comparing this year's report to last year's report, and it would be hard to believe that nutrients went into that and just flat-out disappeared. I'm not at all saying that we don't believe you - it's ...

PJD:
It's too late to start on an analysis tonight. I'm glad the pH's all rose, but My God, those Base Saturations are beyond horrible.
I'll go over it on the train in the morning. If you'd like, it should be posted a little after 8am.

BTW, you wouldn't have an extra 26HU5 tube for my family's front room television, would you? DO NOT laugh at tubes. I paid five figures for a tube-based stereo system that reproduces music so perfectly that people say they can never listen to their own stereos again. I can hear the singer breathing...

LOL. I heard a different version of the same from a Physics professor. He said that any force in the Universe that could not be explained in any other way, could be explained by Duct Tape.

I pull out my copy that I've had since the 1980's and read it again about every two years or so. I always learn new things when I read it again.

I'll sell you a 2 lb box of powder that turns yellow when wet for only $18. But don't tell anyone about the special price.
Of course, it does have to be wet in a certain fashion...

Re: Crabgrass Control
But I am curious what the cinnamon and flours bring to the action. About 4 cents. I've never seen anything other than their advertising that indicates that cinnamon is active in the amounts that they are using for Crabgrass. The flour is most likely an "organic filler". Just a word of warning: folk...

Re: My UMASS soil test results - need advice
No problem.
I bought Gypsum this past weekend and paid $16 for 38 lbs. That's "garden center prices".
PS: I torture you about the perfect pH, but I'm running pH 6.7 in the front yard, and pH 6.8 in the back. So I deserve torture too.
