Re: Mower Cleaning
Hello, I bought a Honda HRX217 mower last spring. In the next couple of weeks, I'll be doing my first pre-spring tune-up on this mower; new blades, filter, oil, etc. One thing I'd also like to do is give the mower a nice wash. It's covered in dust and grime from the last season, and I want to "rest...

Re: Pre-Emergent Sale
With PRE applications, there almost isn't a "too soon", within reason. You want to apply the product early enough to prevent emergence of the majority of your weeds, but the later you apply it, the longer into your season you get control. For the mid- to upper-transition zone (which encompasses you...

Re: Proactive Bio Fungicide Program 2017
Thanks for the articles Andy. I think I am going to start with Serenade on my lawn this year and go from there. This is my second year having the yard treated for fungus. Had some major issues with it last year. It even looks like I have some areas that may be dealing with leaf spot right now. It st...

Re: Prepping for Spring in the South
I'd get the soil test done asap, then figure out from there on what's needed to be addressed. Obviously some type of pre-M without N will be needed without question unless your going to seed. How large is the property? The yard is about a quarter of an acre. So it is pretty small. There are a few s...

Re: Pre-Emergent Sale
What do you guys think about Dithiopyr as a pre-emergent? Dithiopyr has great grass activity. It is pricier than prodiamine. The biggest difference between the two is that dithiopyr has some POST activity on young crabgrass plants (up to 3-leaf stage, I believe), but prodiamine has no POST activity...

Re: Pre-Emergent Sale
Hey thanks for the post! What do you guys recommend that I buy for spring? Trying to go ahead and prepare. I live in Tennessee and have Tall Fescue. Search the forums here for Prodiamine and Dithiopyr/Dimension. Those are two popular pre-emergents. Thanks bud..what type of sprayer do you use to app...

Prepping for Spring in the South
Hey guys! Firstly, I would like to thank you all for the awesome and informative posts on the forums. They have helped me get a head start on the yard. My background: we purchased a new home in December of 2015 and decided to buy sod for our front and back yard in March 2016. I decided that I wanted...

Re: The #1 Lesson You Learned in 2016
Do not over water the yard in the summer. I learned the deep and infrequent watering pattern. I almost killed my whole yard in the middle of the summer with leaf spot from over watering.

Re: Putting out Urea before Rain Today - Thoughts?
Onto your spreader question - If it is your first time using Urea in that spreader - set it to the lowest setting that the stuff comes out of it. Then it will allow for multiple passes and an even application. Also measure out how much you need for a certain area...do passes until used up (typicall...

Re: Dumped my Urea this morning
last year I couldn't find the right time to get winterizer down - the grass grew so long into the winter (easy to tell with a fiskars momentum because if there is any blade to cut if throws it out infront of you high into the air) And then when it may have finally stopped it was so freaking cold an...

Ok, well I may be waiting a little while longer then. Could be January before I get it put down here in Nashville. Top growth tends to stop by early December, but with this weather it may not.

Re: Putting out Urea before Rain Today - Thoughts?
No, top growth has not stopped yet. We have still been seeing some growth. I would say it has slowed down significantly, but not stopped. The day time temps have been ranging from 50-70 over the past two weeks. We have had multiple frosts/freezes, and maybe one "deep freeze" so far.

Putting out Urea before Rain Today - Thoughts?
Hey guys, they are calling for about an inch to inch and a half of rain today and tonight. Hasn't started raining here yet, but I'm curious if now would be a good time to put out some 46-0-0 fertilizer urea? If so, what setting should I use on a Scott's deluxe broadcast spreader? I'm thinking someth...

When to let the yard "go" until Spring
Hey guys, this has probably already been answered, but I have tall fescue sod, and was wondering when I need to stop watering / Fertilizing, and just let it slow down until spring? Its been in the 60-70 degree range for the last two weeks, and we are expecting our first frost tonight (very late for ...

Bayer Advanced 24 Hour Grub Killer Plus - Mole Situation
Hello everyone, I have had moles tearing up my yard over the past week or so, right after I have had my grass coming in really well from seeding and fertilizing earlier this fall. My question is, how do I get rid of them? After reading a few posts on this forum, I have come to a conclusion of puttin...

Re: TTTF Fall Mowing Height ?
I always cut my grass at the highest setting for the 30" Toro Timemaster which I believe is 4.25 inches. Is that dumb for the fall/spring?

Re: In a pinch, is it too late?
It is a tri blend fescue from the Hogan company. I'll look closer tonight, but it looks like the seed is coming up kind of patchy in those bare areas. It's not as thick as I would like for it to be.

In a pinch, is it too late?
Hey guys, I have a few bare spots in my back yard from our new puppy. I've been trying to train him to pee in the mulch and have been somewhat successful. Anyway, I recently aerated, seeded, and fertilized the yard. I wasn't really thinking and hadn't put down any topsoil on those of th seed in thos...
