Re: Heads Up: Prepping for "Fall Nitrogen Regimens"

Thanks Andy. I just picked up a discounted bag of urea. They marked the price down to $10 since it had a small tear in it. I haven’t weighed it yet but it still feels awfully close to 50lbs

Re: Mowing when wet and the tradeoffs

Bagging when wet makes a mess, too...in the bag. There's no good answer, except maybe side discharge if your mower offers it. But it leaves longer clippings than mulching, which isn't great either. I got a wet mow in during lunch today and was wondering what others think the best practices for mowi...

Re: Triclopyr

Spot application mix recommendations are usually no different than the broadcast rates. It's up to you to know how to spot apply at the same coverage rate as your would say 1 gallon per 1000 sq ft. For example, the spot application rate for Tenacity is 1 tsp in 2 gallons applied at 1 gallon per 100...

Re: Triclopyr

Thank you for for posting this, you've encouraged me to attack the clover in my yard! On Friday I hit it with triclopyr from Ortho Poison Ivy and Brush Killer. I mixed up 1.5 oz of 8% triclopyr with 1.5 gallons of water with 1.5 oz of non-ionic surfactant. It hasn't even been a week and I can alread...

Re: Josh's 2019 soil test

I just found SOP on Long Island from a local turf supply for $28 per 50lbs. You should be able to find something similar in CT. I remember hearing other CT members mention a place called valley green. Not sure if you’re near there but I had good luck calling local turf supply places. As for the iron...

Re: agn015 Spring 2019 Soil Test

That’s great to hear Andy! I’ve never applied any lime so I’m happy to see the pH dropped a little. Maybe in a few more years it’ll drop a little more to ideal levels. I’ll continue alternating bay state with urea and adding in organics as the budget allows. I already know where to get SOP so we’re ...

agn015 Spring 2019 Soil Test

Here are the results from my 4th soil test. Every year I'm amazed at how much visual improvement there is to both the soil and the plants. Thanks for all of the help! I have about 12k sqft total of grass of KBG and TTTF. I mow as often as I can during the season, usually every 4-7 days depending on ...

Re: Chapin's new 20V Backpack Sprayer

I’ve seen online reviews of battery issues as well as others complaining about the pump leaking. I’ve been wondering if those bad reviews are from a bad batch of sprayers that slipped through quality? It will be interesting to see if any other owners chime in with input. I bought my Chapin 63985 bac...

Re: Tip: Observe snow melt patterns

Great tip! I noticed this is true in my yard too. I realized it this spring when we got a few late snowfalls and have been using that info to adjust my watering habits. I move around sprinklers manually so it definitely helped me get more efficient and will help me fine tune zones if I ever take the...

Re: Urea Leaching

I had the same concern here on LI and ended up dropping urea, iron BLSC and KH Thursday afternoon hoping that it will help everything penetrate the soil surface easier when the rain starts. I also found an article below geared towards farmers. They claim the following. “Farmers sometimes broadcast f...

Re: Frost/Freeze Right On Time

I don't have enough data of my own to compare to, but I woke up this morning to our first light frost. This is about a week early according to Dave's Garden's date of October 27. Looks like we have time until hard frost here. The forecast for the next 10 days has lows around 40° or warmer.

Re: Cleaning spreader?

I bought a used Earthway C22 and was wondering how others are keeping their spreaders clean too. I’ve only used mine twice but so far I have been rinsing with the hose and spraying the metal parts with fluid film after it dries. I too read it that it’s an excellent rust preventer. The fluid film is ...

Re: Any tips for first mow with a tractor on new grass?

I don’t have a tractor and aren’t too familiar with how they drive but I used to off road my Jeep pretty often. With the Jeep we would lower the pressure to about 10-15psi to allow the tire to ‘float’ better on softer surfaces like sand. If the tire pressure was too high, the tires would sink and di...

$17 per 50 lb. bag from All Pro Horticulture, Lindenhurst, NY. That's a good price from All Pro! They sold 50lbs to me for $21.67 including tax. You must have gotten contractor pricing. :good: I haven't opened my bag yet, but there was an opened one in the warehouse and the prills looked much small...

Is coconut milk beneficial to soil?

I have about a half gallon of coconut milk that’s been in the fridge too long so no one will drink it. I know cows milk can be beneficial to soil health when sprayed on the lawn but what about coconut milk? Google says, “Coconut milk contains lauric acid, antimicrobial lipids and capric acid, which ...

Re: Heads-Up: It's Time to Talk "Leaf Mulching"!

Its amazing how much more convenient mulching is. I always thought we had too many leaves to mulch but that isn't even close to being true. I'm ashamed to say that we bagged our leaves the first year we moved into our home. I think my back still hurts. NEVER AGAIN! This will be my third year mulchin...
