Re: Poa Triv same color as bluegrass
Get rid of it if you can. It’ll turn lighter and then go dormant brownish in the heat. It’ll also grow faster so it won’t blend in. Also will have a different texture.

Re: Ugh!! Chapin 24V Sprayer Died
When I was putting away my MY4sons sprayer last fall I emailed to check with them what the best practice is as far as the battery. They suggested I recharge it every three or four months, which I did and it was fine this spring.

Re: Timing of preventative fungicide
Hey Pway, I'm in S Plainfield. Newbie here. Just put in bluegrass sod in backyard last June. Joined here last month to learn how to maintain it. (cost me $$$...5k sq ft) My neighbors across the street and next to me have crap yards. So I battle weeds constantly. Laughing about your deer problem bec...

Re: Timing of preventative fungicide
I used to get Red thread every year no matter what I did and what Fungicides I tried. The way I finally beat it was to blow up my Northern Mix and plant a mono stand of Bewitched. No more Red thread, problem solved! Not sure how old your lawn is, but the newer Cultivars are far more superior to dis...

Re: Timing of preventative fungicide
Last year I got hit with lots of red thread in early to mid May (first noticed May 7.) Similar problem the previous year. For those that do a preventative fungicide, what is your timing and program. I have azoxystrobin and propacanizol that I can rotate. I have not fertilized this spring and was pl...

We had some new growth on several andromeda shrubs that got damaged by the frost.

Late frost today 4/17
We haven’t had a frost here in more than a month but have one this morning. I think technically our “latest frost” date is around 4/30 but I don’t have one that late recorded in my notes or memory.

Re: Midnight Monostand Pics Seeded August 2019
Thought I’d post a couple of pics of my neighbor’s Midnight KBG monostand I helped him to do. This was seeded mid-August 2019. It came out really nice and color is really dark for just 8 months old. Some Poa annua and Triv we are going to have to kill here and there and reseed, but overall pretty g...

Re: Been struggling with control this weed.. any suggestions?
I’m not an expert but it could be annual rye grass, which has those reddish or purplish base and is bunch forming, pointed leaf. I have some in one isolated area of my lawn and it looks a lot like your picture. Others with more expertise will likely weigh in.

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Pulled a lot of poa annua seed heads and plants. I used dimension last September and I believe most poa annua germinates in the fall so I’m a bit surprised I have this much in the usual locations. Multi year battle for sure. I may hit it with tenacity when it’s less windy, did dimension a couple wee...

Re: My 4 sons backpack sprayer
I have used mine (Chapin 24V backpack sprayer) for Barricade WDG (water dispersable granulaes) and Heritage 50 DF without issues. I just make sure to do a little dance at the end of each pass to agitate the mixture since my sprayer does not have built in agitation. This https://www.northerntool.com...

Re: My 4 sons backpack sprayer
I don't have this particular backpack sprayer, but battery powered sprayers are well worth it. I have only used my backpack sprayer for liquids so far. Do you use it for something granular that is dissolved in water (e.g., Heritage 50 DF)? I admit to being a little concerned keeping the mix in solu...

Greening up and has started to grow, especially in our southern exposure. I can tell the boat shaped blades are new from last fall’s mow. I’ll probably mow later this week.

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
We just got back from Turks and Caicos today. We’ve gone just about every year since 2010. They still have eggs, bread and toilet paper on the shelves in IGA so you should be okay to travel there. I’d say it might even be safer there lol. I’m planning to pull this years soil sample in the morning. ...

I will also add that their customer service is excellent.i had some questions about which spray tips to use for various applications and then how to keep the battery well charged over the winter and they got back to me immediately. Used it again yesterday for dimension.

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Forsythia in my yard is about 25% in bloom while the neighbors 200 yards away is in full bloom and has been for almost a week. Different species? I notice his always blooms earlier than mine but they have the same exposure. Both are rows old at least 40 years old. We are expecting some rain this wee...
