Re: It's Finally the Day I Consider the Beginning of Spring!!
Agree. A guy a few blocks down has some Scotch Broom down by his mailbox (invasive species but blooms super early) and it had at least a dozen full blooms on it when I went for my walk the other day. Daffodils are up, but not yet blooming. Some moss in the cracks of my driveway is bouncing (unfortun...

Re: Zoysia for Hellstrip
Thanks...Someone told me it can grow under the sidewalk into the main lawn. That would be a definite deal breaker if someone can confirm this. Figured a concrete lagoon would keep spreading in check. That wouldn’t surprise me. The patch in my yard had rhizomes more than two feet long. It is extreme...

Re: Zoysia for Hellstrip
It’s all personal preference but I completely dislike the brown straw color through much of the year. It spreads too. Last year I had some introduced either by the neighbors lawn service or deer, or maybe something else. Had to dig it up. Just my opinion, though.

Re: Dormant Seeding Work for you.
I had great success in 2018 dormant seeding. Dropped seed on February 20. Sprayed tenacity April 3 and again on May 12 (I wanted to spray closer to May 3) before switching to Dimension 2EW on May 26. Thanks. I have not done dormant seeding or spring seeding before but I am going to try it for three...

Re: Dormant Seeding Work for you.
So for those doing dormant seeding, what do you do with your Spring pre-emergent (skip it, delay until when, just go ahead, use Mesotrione and then a stronger pre emergent later, other?) thanks.

Re: POA triv, bermuda all in the yard
I have triv, and the other one is either Bermuda or Bent. Add Nimblewill to your list of candidates if you're not sure if it's Bentgrass or Bermuda. You should be able to at least tell the two warm-season grasses from the cool-season one by how brown they are at various times of the year. Thankfull...

I have both as well. There is quite a bit of triv in the neighborhood but I have no idea where the Bermuda came from. It looks horrible.

Re: Winter Discussion Topics
Maybe they’d belong on the other forums on irrigation and equipment but I’d be interested in hearing how long folks run their irrigation to get one inch. I know it depends on the water pressure and piping, and I also know about the tuna can measurement test. I think I have different heads dispersing...

Re: How Do You Rate The 2019 Season For Your Lawn?
Due to July heat and wind I missed my second Dithiopyr app. Also I let some creeping charlie goat the same time due to heat. I think I also under watered in the drought. The lawn did rally nicely in September and October. Couple lessons learned and my summer mistakes will not be repeated.

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
I’d like to winterize my mowers in a couple weeks but the guy across the street doesn’t do his leaves. Last year I had to mulch mow up until 2 days before Christmas Eve because the wind kept blowing them into my yard until then. He also rarely cuts his lawn Same here...almost all the leaves are dow...

Re: Nomix plugs?
As has been said already, plugs in a mix work great, but the fill-in ability is lower for the other species. But use what you have, or what you need to match the grass you have. This time of year, you just want to get them planted before the ground freezes. I wouldn't get too hung up the type of gr...

I’m going to guess that you can but the spreading would be less than all KBG. I just planted 8 KBG 10” pots yesterday.

Re: Core Aeration During Low Temps
I don’t know about core aeration with regard to temperature. There appears to be two schools of thought on aeration in general, those who oppose it since it can bring up dormant weed seed, and those who swear by it in a positive way. I think the vast majority of people on this site oppose it.

Re: Seed selection help
Just a matter of personal taste but I don’t like fine or chewing fescue. The texture is significantly different from the others in your mix. It does do well in shade , though. A guy from Summit seed talked me into a Northern mix 7 or 8 years ago (I guess I let him talk me into it) but I wouldn’t add...

I am not doing the fall nitrogen program but as far as average first frost, our date is October 20 but last year was actually 20 days after that and the few years before were later than average too.

We’ve had about 1.25 inches of rain in the last 35 days. Non in the forecast either. Leaves falling from stress, as Andy remarked.

I believe that the AI in grubex is Chlorantranipole and no longer imidicloprid. It needs to go down in April or May.
