Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Keep to the proper watering schedule through system blowout, after which we go on the natural method until spring. :-) Dropping temperatures mean that less water evaporates, so keep an eye on your soil as well. Waterloogged isn't good at all, and you may want to cut it back a bit as the temps contin...

Re: Simpson's work in progress (way to many pictures)
I get joggers going up and down my driveway (not sure how to tell one of my neighbors to keep her dog off my lawn while she's smelling the flowers). Right now my main attraction are my beds; but if I keep this up I think the lawn will be a showstopper as well. Well, it's a bit passive-aggressive, b...

Re: Bone Meal
I don't see any issue with it, although I don't know if the equivalency is for the concentrate or the diluted stuff. I tend to think it's the concentrate. It's not a product I have any experience with. Personally, I'd save the cash and add starter fertilizer instead. You can find some lower-N starte...

Bah, if you shoved your nose into my new lawn 3 years ago you would have seen ground ivy, spurge, yellow nutsedge, crabgrass, clover, black medic, and about a hundred other things I couldn't identify offhand. Look now and you'll find one or two weeds over 7,000 square feet. I'm not familiar with Mom...

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
That is really looking great! You don't have any more weeds than I did, and you've seen the most-modern images of my lawn. Not a weed to be seen (well, there are some corn sprouts if you look closely, but those hardly count). BTW, I love your gardens. I never thought of in-laying a pot like that bef...

Re: feels like Christmas, got soil test rsults!
I come from a different school, and you need an explanation of why I choose the P numbers I use as Optimal. Soil Testers use two different tests for Phosphorus. If the pH is less than 7.2, the Olsen P test is used, and the Optimal PPM is between 16-24. If the pH is greater than or equal to 7.1, the...

Re: Anybody Care to comment on PRG & allelopathy?
Allelopathy tends to happen more with mature ryegrass and KBG seedlings, so overseeding bluegrass into a thick ryegrass lawn would be futile. The seedlings sprout, but die before they can mature. I've read two arguments on this--one, the rye excretes chemicals to kill surrounding plants. That's not ...

Re: feels like Christmas, got soil test rsults!
You can drop starter and Milwaukee's Finest Rear Extract at the same time with absolutely no issues. The N from starter is lower than the P, so it won't overdo things, and the N from the Milorganite is so slowly available it doesn't matter at all. Andy doesn't even count that N toward his total for ...

Re: feels like Christmas, got soil test rsults!
Andy does the micros, I'm afraid to touch them. ;-) The major stuff I can do, plus iron which isn't a touchy micronutrient to be adding. pH: 7.0 is a little high, and your buffer is 7.1, meaning change will be difficult. However, it's only a little high (grass likes 6.3 to 6.7 or so). Ignore it. Usi...

Re: feels like Christmas, got soil test rsults!
JG has an excellent point. Genetics go a long way toward determining color. My mother's lawn will never approach the green mine is.
Still, dump the Milwaukee poo once a month for the iron and the OM. That'll help, as much as it can.

All God's chilluns got nutsedge. I get the yellow stuff, but a good shot of Certainty takes them out (on KBG, at least).

Re: feels like Christmas, got soil test rsults!
Yeah, P, iron, boron, and copper are off, but nothing's severely wrong. You're probably disappointed in the lawn color with that pH and iron combination, but that's fixable.
Or, welcome to the Milorganite Club.

Re: Milorganite and fungus
Totally agreed with the above; it's totally normal. Those happy little saprophytic fungi and bacteria (a few of which act more like fungi) are going to town on your Milorganite, eating, drinking, and generally making merry.
That's a good thing!

Re: Ground Zero - My Lawn Renovation
Much better. There's more change from day 21 to 28 than there was from day 14 to 21. Which is pretty normal, but always fun. The rock star side looks like it's starting to compete with the neighbor's lawn there.
I'm lousy at weed ID, but that doesn't look like P. annua at least.

Re: Bone Meal
Yes, it is, and at $13 to $18 depending on what you choose, for me it's about the same as 1 1/2 bags of Milorganite. Knowing what I'm working with is more than worth that! Even if the number changes aren't big, they're still there, and hopefully moving in the right direction. Even if not, at least y...
