Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
My ProPlugger came in the mail so I had to try it out. Moved probably 25 plugs around to repair some damage from last summer (chinch bug I think) and some other bare spots. I wasn't sure on the timing of plugging (is it too early?) but with 1.5" of rain in the forecast this week I figured I'd exper...

Re: Soil Testing at UMASS Suspended
I was worried about this and sent my Logan Labs sample out on Monday 3/16 but USPS hasn’t updated tracking since Wednesday. It’s been stuck at the regional metro NY distribution center. I sent USPS a message so I hope they find it soon.

Re: Broadcast Spreader Recommendations
Keep your eyes open for used ones. I found a used Earthway C22R (similar to the 2150) for $50. It’s served me well on my 12k sqft for a few years now and shows no signs of slowing down. You’re right, the pneumatic tires are a huge upgrade from the plastic scotts wheels. I don’t know how I used the S...

Re: So when do we drop the PreM?
I also follow the gdd tracker just to see if I’m in the ballpark. My hope is to use the forsythia and growing degree days as two reference points to fine tune my preM timing over the next few years. So far it seems like forsythia bloom right around 300 GDD for my area and that's about the same time ...

I don’t mean to hijack this thread. I’m not worried about T&C, more the airport and coming back. I hear incoming international flights and processing is a nightmare. To keep this on subject, if I stay home more time for cleanup and such! Yes def not trying to hijack. I hear ya about the travel. We ...

Re: So when do we drop the PreM?
I dropped my prodiamine today too. Forysthia near the highways are full bloom and my neighbors thin one is about as full bloom as it ever gets. I agree that being early is better. My area is 2 full weeks early compared to last year. I was considering waiting until the weekend too but had some extra ...

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
We just got back from Turks and Caicos today. We’ve gone just about every year since 2010. They still have eggs, bread and toilet paper on the shelves in IGA so you should be okay to travel there. I’d say it might even be safer there lol. I’m planning to pull this years soil sample in the morning. T...

Re: Dormant Seeding Work for you.
I had great success in 2018 dormant seeding. Dropped seed on February 20. Sprayed tenacity April 3 and again on May 12 (I wanted to spray closer to May 3) before switching to Dimension 2EW on May 26.

Re: How Do You Rate The 2019 Season For Your Lawn?
I voted B: It was very good, and met most of my expectations. I had some summer damage in full sun areas but that thickened up tremendously under the aggressive N regimen this fall. I was hoping my shady areas would thicken up under the regimen too but summer/fall rust has caused some thinning with ...

Re: Out of curiosity, how many times did you mow this year?
I've mowed 44 times so far this year on Long Island, putting about 40 hours on the mower. I still have about 1, maybe 2 leaf mulching sessions left. Not to mention, I've got my eye on the 6 bags of leaves in front of my neighbors house...

Re: Newly Seeded Lawn-Winterize or Not
I was in a similar situation, getting seed down in October of 2017. Search for a thread titled yard graded near frost. The areas that got leaf mulch came in the best on my property. But I used a toro 22” and not a 600lb tractor.

Re: Anyone else in the NE getting hit with rust?
I'm still battling my rust from last month. I almost had it fully under control with just one serenade app in mid September, but I neglected to spray a second serenade app and the rust roared back to life at the beginning of October. I put one more 2oz/k app down yesterday and plan to do weekly apps...

Re: Winterizing Poll
I also voted zero but that’s because it’s illegal to apply nitrogen fertilizer in Suffolk county NY from November 1 to April 1. Otherwise I have gone aggressive on the N getting weekly apps down since September 2. If all goes well I will have 4lbs of N down by between 9/2 and 10/31. Hoping the grass...

Re: Clovers everywhere
+1 on triclopyr. I had a few large patches of clover this spring that I hit twice, 2 weeks apart and 95% of the clover is gone. I have a few stragglers that I must have missed or only hit once. I'm planning to hit them again soon. I've never had good luck with tenacity on clover. Yes it turns white,...

I still have my eye on the generic version. I have a little bit of my authentic Tenacity left, but as soon as that is gone, I'll buy whichever one is less expensive.

Re: Sourcing Sulfate of Potash and Urea in Massachusetts
That’s funny that Franklin Agway doesn’t have urea anymore. Back when I first started my lawn care journey about 3 years ago, that was the first place I bought urea.

Re: Anyone else in the NE getting hit with rust?
I just noticed some rust in my lawn here on Long Island. From a distance I thought it was all over, but it appears to just be on the north side of the house and in the really shady areas, most likely due to the slower growth in those areas. It doesn't seem to be an intense outbreak so hopefully I ca...

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
The kids woke us up early so I’ve had the impact sprinklers running since about 5am to supplement the .2” of rain we got yesterday. I’ll give the lawn a nice drink today/tomorrow morning to water in my second urea app of the aggressive program and the dimension 2ew app I sprayed yesterday.

Re: Type of Mix Seeds I could use
I am planning on buying Rain Gauge to help me determinant how long it takes to irrigate water 1 inch. Do you have any suggestion when to water it? morning vs afternoon or evening? Instead of buying a rain gauge you could use tuna cans or any flat bottomed and straight sided containers. I think the ...
