Re: Need Lawn Care Plan
Welcome!!! Your posting was the second time today that I wound up laughing out loud, which isn't a common thing. The first time was in celebration of a hard-working Member that absolutely rung the bell on his first-year results. My laughter on your's was a reaction to one of your lists: I want to ac...

I am laughing out loud - God bless you, son. You're going to be the first ever double-digit OM. In the LQC, no less.Organic Matter: 9.0% (8.2%)

Re: Yet another soil test from UMass
Those are piddly 20 milliwatt LED's. Send the cap to me, I'll put some of my 3 watt LED's (for my aquariums) on it - you won't only be able to work at midnight, you'll cause photosynthesis on the lawn. You'll need Thirty Mule Team instead of the standard Twenty Mule Team...

You'll have them in time to drop the stuff in the Dark tonight - I'll figure them out after I get home. It's Choo-Choo time now.

Re: Lawn Tractor
Erio stole my story! I bought a lawn tractor in the first year that the hydrostatic automatic transmissions became mass-market. My front yard is a hill, and has been the graveyard of many a piece of lawn and garden equipment. The auto tranny took a while to get used to on the hill - it had a tendenc...

Re: Stocking Up for Crabgrass Season
Yeah - the "original" was like a 1-gallon bottle. That's why homeowners weren't using it at first. I'm not aware of any sizes "somewhere in between".Just thought I'd point that out. Ebay is still cheaper for me. Does anyone have this in a little larger bottle?

Re: Got My Soil Test Results
LDD: Any chance that either you could call UMASS and get a Human to offer an opinion as to what in your area could cause a CEC that low to behave as concrete, or alternatively PM me the contact phone/email on your results AND the name of your town so that I could call them? Sometimes, the local Co-o...

Maybe I'll make up for my crime by explaining Quinclorac to the folks that aren't familiar with it. Unless Gary wants to explain it - I think he knows it better than I do.

Stocking Up for Crabgrass Season
I know that for most of the Northern Lawn folks, its still a little early, but I spotted a very good price on a good product for crabgrass season. Quinclorac is really good at the job (and some ubernasty broadleafs too) and has been used by the pro's for a while, but now they have homeowner sizes to...

Re: Soil test results from UMASS for Queens, NY 11362
I lived in Kew Gardens years ago, and ANYTHING edible put on the grass or street drew pigeons. I mean lots of pigeons. I'm not sure what its like farther east, but I hate pigeons. Rats with wings. That's what I had in mind. Did I mention that I don't like pigeons? Up where I live now, I have tons of...

Re: Soil test results from UMASS for Queens, NY 11362
Hi, Carolyn and welcome back. I assume that you spent the entire winter reading every posting on the site twice, and you will be chiming in on the discussions of the biochemistry of photosynthesis regularly this Spring. I'm ready to get back to fixing up the lawn soil now that it's a beautiful sprin...

Re: Got My Soil Test Results
Absolutely I do NOT believe that this is Calcium or Magnesium at play. But I don't think this is mechanical only (Morph's eyes only: its some form of ionic bond).
PS: that all said, you should have seen the LQC soil sizzle - think "Old Faithful" in a two-liter soda bottle...

Re: Got My Soil Test Results
This may be too technical for the OP, but trust me - there is a practical end-result. The spouse may roll their eyes, but it is well-invested money (and not big money). Send me a bag of the dirt we're discussing.   When the member of the LQC described their Soil Structure test ...

Re: Got My Soil Test Results
Yeah, that's sort of what I was expecting to hear, after your original "what the hell" statement about where the other layers were going. The only "surprise" is that your results are more extreme than I was expecting... Soooooooo --- what is that trying to tell us??????? Actually, it ties together t...

Re: Got My Soil Test Results
There is one more factor that I add to my scheduling: it is "how long has it been since the wife asked the question "how much have you spent on that lawn lately?". If it was recently, I have a tendency to delay new applications by a week or two.

That's what I did - a monostand of "Emblem". Want to visit and see the Poa A in it? Next weekend is "Certainty Weekend". I know you have the experience, but for the sake of everyone reading this that doesn't have your experience (and also so Mallory doesn't beat me up!), monostands are only for thos...

Re: Chickweed
Gary typed faster than me, but I'll leave my post the way I typed it: I can only tell you of a very good synthetic solution: Ortho's Chickweed, Clover and Oxalis Killer. You'll see it mentioned on this site sometimes as just "CCO". Does exactly what it says it will do, and is quite effective on Grou...

I can think of only one organic that shouldn't be applied at the same time as the others - TTDM (Tow Truck Driver Meal).
