Posting 2017 Soil Tests for Interpretation
Hi there!
This is my second year posting a soil test. Last year you guys were amazing, so I'm interested to see what you think of my results this year:
Here are the details of my lawn:
Age of Lawn: 9 Years
Type of Grass: Hybrid Bermuda (Tifway 419)
Size of Lawn: Approx 5,000 square feet of grass
Condition of Soil: Sod placed directly over soil (no topsoil, compost or soil amendments). Been adding homemade compost and shredded leaves to lawn throughout the season.
Cutting of lawn: Using McLane Gas-powered reel mower to cut grass. Cut typically twice a week (depending on rainfall and growth)
Lawn Maintenance up to this point: Organic Program provided by local company through 2015. Followed advice of this forum for 2016 maintenance.
Results so far: Grass has thickened during 2016 season. Atlanta had huge drought during last 3 months of 2016 growing season, so lawn thinned out at end of season.
Goals for this year: Looking to continue to thicken grass and fill in bare spots.
Sincerely,
Wayne Foreman
Cumming, GA

Just making sure I posted this correctly? There have been over 90 views but no responses, so I'm just wondering if I've done something wrong in my post. Thanks for the guidance and help!

Nothing you did wrong - some ST6 members are still in hibernation, some are just waking up, and one is hiding out in Key Largo. The Key Largo one will remain nameless, but damn the Runrunners are good down here.

Ha Ha, no problem at all. Just making sure I wasn't the problem (as is often the case!). Enjoy paradise!

Looks like this request has gotten lost in the pile. Should I repost it so the moderation team can see it?

Please post a Link in the Soil Test Interpretation Queue thread - that's what ST6 uses to assign tests to the group

Good soil. Not much is going to be different in terms of recommendations from last year, but I am going to tweak it ever-so-slightly.
Your OM came up nicely. Keep at it. It's still a little low from where we'd prefer it.
I note a rise in pH as well, and I chalk that up to more Ca showing up in your results this year. No worries, tests can vary. We aren't adding anything that should push it up this year, and you didn't last year.
So the major cations look pretty good in terms of alignment.
P is likewise ok, but a tad weak - even after your milorganite apps last year. Let's add some this year.
The biggest deficiency is the Iron. The milorganite added last year brought it up some, but I think we can get a little more aggressive this year if you're up for it.
So - what do I think would be a solid plan?
Monthly urea applications @ 2 lbs / K per the Bermuda Guide
Mix in 1 lb / K Triple Superphosphate TSP 0-46-0 with your monthly urea applications to boost P more
Off cycle two weeks from the above, continue milorganite applications like last year
If you wanted to move your iron levels a little faster, you could do some soil drenches of ferrous sulfate or mix it in and spread it dry @ 3 lbs / K every 60 days. Make sure to wash it off the leaves so as not to turn your lawn grey. Spray iron applications are also good for short-term temporary effect - but watch those temperatures.
If you are still wanting to adjust the micronutrients, wait for andy to swing through.
Good luck!

Fantastic, thank you so much!
I'll definitely follow your suggested plan. If Andy has micronutrient recommendations, I'd be glad to incorporate those as well.
Thanks!!!!!

For the micro's, it's the same two: Boron and Zinc. Repeat, but move the application rate up to 3 tablespoons/K. Quit the Zinc after three applications, but stay with the Boron.
