Dolanski Soil Test - April 2017
Good Morning.
Recently discovered this forum and am so looking forward to seeing what our lawn can look like by following the Bermuda Bible. So here we go!
Front area grass is Tifway 419.
Back area grass is Saint Augustine
Soil test taken at 4 inches.
I took six zone areas samples as the lawn has different appearance quality... I would say on a scale of 1 - 10...
Right Street = 8 (turf quality... a few thin spots but good color)
Right Front = 6 (a few dead areas but other areas look good)
Center Street = 8 (turf quality... a few thin spots but good color)
Left Street = 10 (turf quality...dense and good color)
Left Front = 4 (several dead areas are just starting to recover)
Back Yard = 3 (had a fungus which wiped out most of the lawn... just starting to recover)

Did you request "Ammonium Acetate extraction of cations"?

I did not but have reached out to Logan Labs to see if they can run it.

Those results are bizarre, and the reason is that you asked for the results to be reported in lbs/K rather than lbs/acre.
That all said, those results are going to need to be run with Ammonium Acetate extraction of the cations. Call Logan now and ask for Susan - I put in a call for you (first time I've spoken to them this year!).

Re: Dolanski Soil Test - April 2017
Hello Andy,
Susan just emailed the updated soil test with Ammonium Acetate Extraction of Cations as you requested.
Here are the new reports.
I look forward to your advice so that I can start the work this weekend. Also, I am not concerned about an intensive process vs a simple route. Only challenge we face is an under turf drip system which keeps us from aerating the turf.

Hello Andy,
Just confirming you saw my updated post with the new Soil Analysis results from Susan at Logan.
Please let me know if you need any additional information. Happy to provide.

Yup. If you check the Queue, you'll see that you're at the top of the line. I tend to get maybe 4 or so of them done in an evening.

I started but got caught up on this statement. Does this mean that you want a simple plan? With 6 different sets of results, I'm use to people that want to manage down to the square inch!!I am not concerned about an intensive process vs a simple route.
So what is it: simple, or advanced?

No issue with detail. Am willing to follow your advice to the 1/2 inch if that's what it takes.

Re: Dolanski Soil Test - April 2017
Even with the AA test putting a muzzle on the Calcium, it continues to scream and to distort the other values. And the problem is that there are so much Calcium sitting on the sideline waiting for an opportunity that the piddling attempts to change things will never matter.
Here are the only things that I can see clearly:
Right
Medium Loam holding a lot of nutrients, almost all Calcium
Phosphorus is fine
I'd use a simple Nitrogen regimen of 1 lb/K per month
Center and Left
Medium Loam, overwhelmed by Calcium
Could use a good Starter fertilizer where the N and P numbers are close - pick one and post the NPK
Back
Medium Loam holding a lot of nutrients, almost all Calcium
Phosphorus is at very high levels
I'd use a simple Nitrogen regimen of 1 lb/K per month
I think that these soils could support a nice Bermuda lawn. I have no idea how St Aug would respond to the numbers. Overall, this is a stumper with very high numbers popping up all over the place. I'd stick with simple regimens for this scenario...

Thanks Andy. Is there any way to reduce the calcium?

Andy... is there an issue with the Ph being too high?

Re: Dolanski Soil Test - April 2017
In the tens of thousands of lbs levels that you have? No, not at all. See the huge differences in the lbs of Calcium between the AA and the regular tests? That's Calcium just waiting for a place to go in your soil...
The exact opposite is true -- the pH is too high because there is too much Calcium. Even if we removed 10,000 lbs of Calcium, there is so much that the pH would remain high.Andy... is there an issue with the Ph being too high?

Ok. Thanks. I'm going to ask the lawn company we terminated due to poor results and see if they treated the lawn before we discontinued.
