Need guidance for second year

Post by fred9 » May 8th, 2017, 9:16 pm

Last fall I followed Hoosier's guidance twice! That is I applied Encap and epsom salts 90 days apart and applied K of SOP in aug and sept. I also applied low doses of Urea 3 times.

Attached is link to last year's thread and a picture of this this year's test.

I see some improvement in this year's test but would like guidance for what to do this year.

THANK YOU!

Make sure that your test results have a Link in the Soil Test Interpretation Queue thread.

Ha!! There is very little to tell you to do...

You've got a somewhat sandy soil with an excellent OM number. The TEC isn't going to go much higher.

The cations are a little out of balance, but we don't want to monkey too much with the pH at 6.7. Apply Gypsum at up to 30 lbs/K (use bag rate if it's the fast-acting type) every 60 days.

Get and apply Sulfate of Potash (SOP, 0-0-50) at 2 lbs/K until September.

Iron is fine, as is Phosphorus.

In the micro’s, it’s only Boron. Get Twenty Mule Team Laundry Soap from the grocery and apply it at three tablespoons/K every 60 days. Read the Micronutrient Application Guide for application specifics.

Thank you so much Andy! So I can't blame by soil for my thin grass? :-))

Should I apply the SOP once this year or ?

Re the Gypsum - the Home Depot website says they can't ship it to Connecticut. Because you are in NY I don't expect you to know of other possible sellers in CT but maybe some CT BL'ers do.

I will read the Micro app guide for the the Boron.

Thank you again,

My little goof - for the SOP it should say "monthly until September"

I suspect that your life will not end because HD doesn't carry something. But that said, I'd say if you're going to be half serious, HD will not be a major supplier to you. Locate the nearest Valley Green and see if it is within striking distance of home sweet home. To get better info from fellow CT'ers you might want to identify your hometown in your profile.

Lowes carries Sta-Green Rapid Gypsum, 30lb, for $9.97. Buy 5 get 10% off, and they'll even ship for free.

Sta-Green Rapid Lime and Rapid Gypsum are rebranded Solu-Cal.
