K5Blazer Soil Test 2017

Post by k5blazer » June 13th, 2017, 9:30 pm

Hello and sorry for the late post. Hopefully I didnt miss last call...

Im a first time poster and new member. Thanks to all the posters here I have learned a ton
and saved a lot of time and money from what I have learned so far. Some background on the
lawn. The side yard is in horrible shape. Not sure what to do here. Im planning on a reno in late August.
I have irrigation and Im loaded up on BSF. The only thing put down this year has been 1 app of BSF.

Not a problem with Last Call -- it's last call for the tracking and stuff that go with the busy season in soil tests. We do soil tests up until November.

Okay. Thank you.

Additional info:
Front lawn @5300sq/ft
Side lawn @1700sq/ft
Would like to get on some type of fert/amendment application schedule.
Would like to add any micronutrients if needed.

While the Side yard is a bit more pronounced than the Front, they both could use essentially the same plan. The Front yard will just finish first.

The soils are very sandy but have somewhat OK organic matter levels -- Lord knows what the TEC would be if the OM wasn't there.

In the cations, the Side is weak across the board and the Front is weak except for Magnesium. Get a good calcitic lime (Encap/Mag-I-Cal/Solu-Cal) and apply it at 9 lbs/K every 90 days. In the Side yard, add 2 lbs/K of Epsom Salts mixed into the Lime.

Sad to say, but you're going on a search mission. You need to find Sulfate of Potash (0-0-50, SOP) and apply two lbs/K per month through September. Not the easiest thing.

The Iron is good in the Front and a bit weak in the Side area. BSF will help with regular applications.

In the micro’s, it’s Boron and Manganese. Get Twenty Mule Team Laundry Soap (grocery) and Manganese Sulfate (Amazon/EBay), and apply each at three tablespoons/K every 60 days. Read the Micronutrient Application Guide for application specifics.

For Nitrogen, I'd be hitting the BSF pretty hard -- it's tough to beat.

K5Blazer, where in "northeast, mass"? See this post on leads for finding SOP in MA.
