Righty - Soil Test 2019

Post by righty » April 10th, 2019, 2:59 pm

First Time, Long Time!

Report is separated by front (~750 sq. ft) and back yard (~1350 sq. ft). Attempted a late fall seeding with hogan blend TTTF that did ok despite the early winter we got in the NE. I'm hoping to try and fill in the bare areas and thicken up the rest of the lawn as best as possible prior to Summer heat rolling in.

Back yard has an issue with moss despite getting a decent amount of sun and have never really been able to get this under control.

If you could also recommend a plan for nitrogen it would be much appreciated!

You've essentially got a soil that is a medium loam with a great OM%. This is a good starting point, and there aren't many shortages.

Your problems are probably due to a lack of sun - there isn't much evidence that you have soil issues.

Let's see what you can do to fix the few shortages you have...

Potassium shortages are the biggest issue - you'll need to find Sulfate of Potash ("SOP", not easy to find). Apply it at 2 lbs/K monthly.

If you'd like to tweak the Magnesium in the Back (optional), apply 2 lbs/K of Epsom Salts a couple of times this year - 90 days apart.

Iron is good, and available to the lawn at your pH. Phosphorus is plentiful.

In the micro's, only Boron is short - get Twenty Mule Team laundry soap and apply at 3 tablespoons/K every 60 days as outlined in the Micronutrient Application Guide.

For Nitrogen, you can apply Milorgaanite or OceanGro monthly at bag rate, or use Urea (cheap!) at 2 lbs/K monthly. You can also alternate them monthly.
