Lawnct 2020 Soil Test

Post by Lawnct » March 20th, 2020, 5:31 pm

Combined 2020 results with the 2017-2019 results.

Lawn is 12,500 sq ft of northern mix.

Last year did (4) 0-0-50 applications - (2 lbs/K)
May, June, July, August (Question: Do I continue with Sept and October?)

Did one Borax application last year in June.

I use BSF/Milorganite as my nitrogen source.

SOP 0-0-50 easy for me to get.

Looking to get my lawn the best it can be. I do not have irrigation, just sprinkler use if needed. Willing to put the work in that is needed. I keep hoping the numbers will show improvement but I'm getting discouraged on the Potassium.

Don't be discouraged!! I've only done a preliminary scan of your numbers (just to save you time if there is a problem), but I see a rising raw number on the Potassium, and a rising TEC. Both are good news, but can be mistaken as "increasing shortages" by the untrained eye. You are building a better soil, and the Potassium is rising, but just not keeping 100% pace with the rising TEC. A quick glance says I see your improvements...

OK, in my honest opinion you are doing very well. TEC is up on a rising OM%.

No need to Lime or use Gypsum. As a matter of fact, AVOID Lime applications. Cations are good except for Potassium, which is into the "Low but not an issue" category on a MUCH better base (you're now a medium loam). Continue 2 lbs/K applications April to September (including September).

Phosphorus is off-the-scale, and you should consider opening a Phosphorus mine.

Iron is excellent, but we need to guard against any further pH rises, as if pH rises any more bioavailability will actual decrease.

In the micro's, only Boron could use further attention. Continue the 60-day applications in 2020.

For Nitrogen, what you're doing is appropriate.

I'd stay the course - it's going the right way in almost all areas.

Thanks as always Andy. This is encouraging. Now if I could only figure out a way to turn my Phosphorus excess into toilet paper.
