KnickLeDime 2020 Soil Test

Post by KnickLeDime » April 2nd, 2020, 11:00 am

Results are in from Logan Labs...

- Here's a link to last years thread for my lawn
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=24806

- Results side by side from last year
Image

- Sample at 4"
- Lawn size about 30,000sqf
- Looking for best results, not afraid of hard work
- Last year regimen was as follows
* Lesco Pre-M Late April
* Gurb-X went down May 2nd
* 19-19-19 applied roughly monthly starting in may, some months were 5 days late or so but on average every 30-35 days at 5lb/k
* Milo applied within a few days monthly with copper, zinc and boron as prescribed. Last application of milo and micros was early August prior to overseed late August.
* Overseed and repair of lawn late August...this was accompanied with peat moss application
* Aggressive Urea application was followed starting very late September almost October...3 applications as I got a late start on advice that I not apply it as overseed was taking so as to not encourage top growth.

Budget didn't allow for any other OM work but I mulched all season and in the fall I did significant mulching of leaves as I have a good deal of leaf drop. 6 bales of peat moss went down with overseed just to cover some of the really poor areas.

If I'm being fair and transparent to my untrained eye it looks like the lawn took a step back based on these results. 15 samples were collected and mixed in a bucket and shipped out. Most disappointed in TEC dropping significantly even with mulching all year and leaf mulch all fall. Oddly enough visually the lawn has never looked better.

I'm so confused...I'll post link in queue as soon as this post goes up and a workable link is generated.

Knickle, I have no explanation of those results and how they can be matched to what you said you applied last year. Where did the applied material go? I would expect some leaching with a TEC in the fives, but everything? Across the board? Your results seem to be consistent with what I would expect if you were unable to apply anything last year.

Since the results are pretty much the same as last year (with the exception of Boron, which rocketed ahead), the recommendations and regimen are the same as last year. I would change brands of the fertilizer if I were you, however - there is no explanation of where the NPK in your current fertilizer went. I don't get it, but it's obvious than 2 + 2 is not equaling 4.

I used ALL lesco branded stuff from site one. I applied bags and bags and bags of stuff all season.

Really disappointed... We'll try again this season. Same regiment.

Anyone have any experience with this pre-m?

I picked this up at site one it was recommended by them and price was good.

Last year I put this down for pre-m.

I see the formulation is different ...last year was pendametheline this year's prem is prodiamine with nitrogen.

Is there a difference in efficacy to surpress the weeds...is one better then the other? I know that's probably subjective but just want to make sure this year's pre-m will get it done.

Can you apply Milo and triple 19 same day or should I space it out?

Not together, but how to play it if you want to use both is dependent on how aggressive you wish to be. The safest is to use one of them one month, and the other the next month. The aggressive angle is to do an offset - put down one (on the light side) at the beginning of the month, and the other at the middle of the month (also light). Rinse and repeat.

Which is more consequencial for the lawn ..or more helpful...I'll stagger every 30 days full app...been struggling to find Milo...finally found it.

I've done both. You have to watch much more carefully when staggering on a shorter cycle. 30-day alternating is easier.

From July 1 - August 15, I wouldn't put down anything but the Milo at half-rate, unless you are OK with REALLY staying on top of the irrigation.

If you don't mind my asking what nitrogen rate per 1ksqf...

For Milo, mid-summer? I think bag-rate is like 14.4 lbs/K, so half-rate would be just over 7 lbs/K.
