1in at 3-4" zone?

Post by Hammbone81 » March 16th, 2021, 12:34 pm

I'm going to submit samples for a soil test later this week.

Question - I'm thinking about submitting 2 samples
1) The 1" section of cores from the 3-4" mark (the 16+floz required)
2) The top 3" chunk of those cores.

I'm interested to see the difference and willing to pay the extra fee. Is there value in that? I mean, the plant does have roots in those first 3" as well?

It's up to you. My experience is that the 1"-3" is all over the board and unstable during the growing/fertilizing season. That's a nice way of saying that a snapshot of a race car doesn't tell you who won the race (aka, not worth a bucket of warm spit). If the snapshot excites you, I'm happy for you, but please refrain from asking us why it zooms all over the board -- it's why it's not worth a bucket of warm spit.

Agreed. I tend to freely mix the entire zone, realizing that feeder roots exist through the whole thing.
