Spring 2021 SE Mass. Soil Test (logan Labs)...

Post by northeastlawn » April 8th, 2021, 3:58 pm

Thanks for the soil report review. I sampled only the backyard and not the hell strips, so it may change a few values from years past.

The lawn is a KBG lawn with 1,500 sf. Last year I followed the guide lines guidelines I have been getting for a few years now.

I applied 2#/k of SOP monthly and Twenty Mule Team laundry soap and Manganese Sulfate at 3 tablespoons/K, every 60 days. I typically apply Bay State Fertilizer at 1/2 bag rate every two weeks from May until July.

Sure - I finally get one that is well on his way, and NElawn goes ahead and submits the test at the 6" level. Matb conversions!!

Things are moving along - the TEC is firmly in the Loam area, and the OM% is reaching near the Great category. Keep it up!!

In the cations, Calcium and Magnesium are a bit high and Potassium is deficient. No Lime. Get and apply Sulfate of Potash ("SOP", 0-0-50) needs to be supplied monthly at 2 lbs/K, through September.

Phosphorus is plentiful.

So is Iron, and it's available.

In the micro's, Boron and Manganese are short - up for that in 2021?

Nitrogen is up to you. Bay State would be a good choice for where you live, but again your call...

Not bad!!!!

Thanks a lot.

I tested at about 4” with my little soil sampler like I always do. I must have checked 6” when I filled out the form, but the sample depth should be 4”.

I’m up for any suggestions on Boron and Manganese, I still have what was suggested in the past. I mix it with my bi weekly 1/2 rate BSF apps every 60 days. It seems such a small amount to do anything, maybe I’m not mixing it into the BSF good enough?

In any case thanks again for looking over my test.

OK, so if you eat a 2 lb steak and take a 50 mg vitamin, the vitamin doesn't do anything? They're called micronutrientss for a reason.
I’m up for any suggestions on Boron and Manganese,
Get Twenty Mule Team laundry soap from the grocery, and Manganese Sulfate (NOT Magnesium Sulfate) from Amazon or EBay. Apply at 3 tablespoons per 1000 sq ft, every 60 days, as outlined in the Micronutrient Application Guide.

Thanks, I know I have been using the twenty mule team soap, and double check that it’s the manganese sulphate I have been using. Maybe come up with a better way to mix it in.
