tke357 2022 soil test

Post by tke357 » May 25th, 2022, 11:14 am

Hi all,
Well its been a while since my last soil sample, things seemed to have changed.. Appreciate any guidance. I have been mostly following Andy's advice from my last test in 2019 linked below. Maybe i have over done it on the lime applications?

No, you're pretty much on target here. Sure, your soil could have balanced a little lower, but there's no real reason to complain about this.

I might suggest, if you can get some potassium sulfate, that you use that at this point rather than a balanced fertilizer. You don't need more phosphorus and I don't really want to add any more.

If not, you can technically skip this but...well, you are a little low on K.

Boron is somewhat low, but it's actually not that extreme. I'd raise it--by buying a box of 20 Mule Team Borax and applying it via the 'script below and following the Micronutrient Application Guide. But again, this is not strictly necessary.

Other than that, it's looking pretty good.

Recommendations:

June: Apply around 2 pounds per thousand square feet potassium sulfate. Apply 4 tablespoons 20 Mule Team Borax per thousand square feet in Milorganite carrier as per the Micronutrient Application Guide.

September: Apply around 2 pounds per thousand square feet potassium sulfate. Apply 4 tablespoons 20 Mule Team Borax per thousand square feet in Milorganite carrier as per the Micronutrient Application Guide.

October: Apply around 2 pounds per thousand square feet potassium sulfate.

Hi Morph,
I have a follow up question. The color of my grass doesn’t seem as dark green as I’d like.. I have a bag of moss out I could apply , how soon after applying it can/ should I apply the Milo with potassium and boron?

Same day, really. Both contain plenty of ferrous sulfate, but it's not an overload by any means.

I might actually apply the Milo in May or early June, and hold the Moss-Out for mid-June after a major rainfall. That gives you two shots of iron separated by two weeks to green it twice, separately. Then you get another hit of iron in September in the Milorganite again.

But it doesn't really matter.

A pH of 6.7 is naturally going to feature paler green grasses than a lower pH would, and you did balance a little high, as I noted. They're not unhealthy, by any means, just a tad less green. You're correct that adding iron will slowly, over time, tend to correct that.
