Spring 2023 SE Mass. Soil Test (logan Labs)...

Post by northeastlawn » April 21st, 2023, 12:22 pm

Thanks for the soil report review, its been a few years at this point.

The lawn is a KBG lawn with 1,500 sf. Last year I followed the guide lines guidelines I have been getting for a few years now.

I applied 2#/k of SOP monthly and Twenty Mule Team laundry soap and Manganese Sulfate at 3 tablespoons/K, every 60 days. I typically apply Bay State Fertilizer at 1/2 bag rate every two weeks from May until July. In the Fall I do weekly Urea apps, and winterize with urea some time in November or December.

Without an explanation of your current status or previous test result link from previous tests, I have to assume a lot, but here goes...

You don't see many tests from SE Mass with 12+ TEC soil or almost or 5.7 OM%. Nice long-term success there.

The low Calcium and Potassium numbers though are lacking.

Apply a good calcitic lime at heavy bag rate every 60 days.

Also, apply Sulfate of Potash (SOP) at 2 lbs/K every month, but not within two weeks of the lime.

Phosphorus is in very good shape.

Iron is good.

In the micro's, Boron is lacking. Get a box of Twenty Mule Team laundry soap from the grocery store. Apply 4 tablespoons/K as directed in the Micronutriemt Application Guide ever 60 days.

Manganese is also lacking. Get Manganese Sulfate from Amazon/EBay and apply at 4 tablespoons/K every 60 days.

Thanks for report, I guess I have wired soil, you have said that before when you looked at my soil results. I attached links to my old soil tests.

Everything is going well with the lawn, the KBG is on its 3rd or 4th year, my plans are to apply whatever is recommended and some BSF and kill some poa-a :-)

This year I used a pro plugger in about 6 spots and mixed all the soil in a bucket, then sent it out. In the past i used a little soil sampler tool in about 20 spots, maybe my sampling method is at fault and is giving me some bad results.....

At this point the KBG has been spreading really well, and every year is better than before. I have the same ongoing issue with mature poa-a, although if I can keep a void in the spring its getting pushed out by the KBG spreading and suppressed by my spring tenacity apps.

Please let me know if I sampled it wrong or your recommendations would change based on my old soil reports.
