Original owner of a new property in a recently developed neighborhood ~15K sqft.

Landscaping was installed last summer (2022).

Front was graded with contractor soil, sodded with KGB. General area is re-purposed farm land / deforested.

Back was debrushed/deforeseted, graded and hydroseeded with who-knows-what. General area was wet forest / drainage basin / lightly swampy.



Samples taken before any applications in mid april. If i recall, i did two light (0.5 lbs N/k) 13-13-13 fertilizer applications in late summer, and once again late fall.

Looking forward to the long project ahead of me!

Interesting!!

It only takes a minute to figure out that those are different soils you sampled.

Both soils have a nice TEC at 8 and 9, and it's probably the organic matter being higher in the Back that is lifting the TEC a bit. The OM is not high enough though, and you should push lots of compost, peat moss and/or mulched leaves regularly.

The pH is being driven by excess Calcium and Magnesium, but the other major cation (Potassium) is in need of supplementation.

Phosphorus is wildly different between the Front and Back. It's at luxury levels in the Front and lacking badly in the Back.
Iron is plentiful, but at your pH it is not bioavailable.

Micro's are OK for now.

What does all that mean?

The Front should get a full application of a high-Nitrogen fertilizer at bag rate monthly and 2 lbs/K of SOP monthly. The Back should get monthly applications of a balanced fertilizer like 10-10-10 or 19-19-19 at bag rate.

Skip the applications in July.
