What kind of grass seed are you using?

Quickie, Quickie...2017:

Lawn is coming in nicely. Thick, green; less weeds...with just a few (hopefully controllable) strays.

I do have some bald patches. So...I need to spot-seed; my soil LOVES Milorganite! And I guess the TB/Halts.

Sorry; what order? :sorry:

If you're asking about TB/Halts on April 10th in MD, I have a feeling that you've missed the prime window for pre-m treatments, but I'll wait for folks more local to you to confirm before we say "now what?".

Scott's My Lawn (lol), says the 1st one...3/11 - 4/7. Just over.

So...

Scotts gets mixed reviews for that reason. You need to go by your local weather not the calendar. That is why we use the forsythia - it blooms when the weather is right.

I would put it down late vs not put it down at all. Just remember to not apply it where you are seeding.

^^ Thanks. Yeah; I've been going by weather; there have been a few cold snaps here of late. But...I'm not seeding (other than the spot seeding), and I guess that only applies to that.

So...my best guess would be: Milorganite never hurt anybody; get that down first? Then...do I have to wait, on the spot-seeding and TB/Halts?

Then there's a 2nd TB/Halts; late Spring, right?

The Scott's app got it pretty close this year for my area in MD. They gave their month-wide window and the forsythia bloomed right in the middle of it.

UPDATE:

Lots of Milorganite, a few days ago. I must admit...I love the smell, of that sweet, sweet poop; when it turns cool in the evening. It's the smell of Spring, and growth :)

I've been watering; not because Milorganite needs to be watered-in (I know it doesn't)...but it's been dry here. Lawn is looking fine :) Thick, plush, green; healthy.

I've going to do a bag of TB/Halts, before the weekend; as we're expecting, some much-needed rain. That means, I've decide...the spot-seeding...will have to wait until Fall.

Only question now is...since my 1st application of TB/H is late; do I stick to one, or try to squeeze a second in...and when?

Well...it's about that time again; isn't it??

After a modicum of success

I'm afraid...the lawn, is back in pretty sad shape...

Here's what I think happened:

1) My soil stinks! I need more dirt, in my dirt!!

2) I've got Crabgrass from hell!

3) I did try to sneak in, a late Halts/TB. I was just over the date-line; and we did have a short cool patch...so I though I might be OK. But i think I burned up, at least a portion of my lawn.

4) It looked, so damn dry; I did (over)-water...even when it probably didn't need it.

I'm just about to cut...highest blade, while I await further instruction; and then, want to try and repair this mess.

I'm thinking...

- Topsoil
- Milorganite
- Over-seed
- Topsoil

??

So...I had planned, to...

- Milorganite
- Top Soil
- Milorganite (love me, that sweet sweet poop)
- Over-Seed
- Fall Pre-Em (when able)

LOL; I know I'm hella-late...per usual. And tonight's low of 39, should dash ALL hope.

But...then they're predicting, some of dat Indian Summer 'round here! 60s & 70s during the day; no lower than 49, through the end of the month.

Outside of the book...what can I realistically try at this point? :blackeye:

Honestly i think you should use the time to plan to be more proactive and prioritize the lawn a bit higher if you want better results. Not trying to bust your chops. The reality is you seem to do things at the wrong time, usually late, where if you'd done them on the right timeline youbwoukdnt need to keep redoing it. Planning to make days generally available for big lawn projects will yield a lot better results.

But life happens I get that:)

PR can germinate in several days. Toss it out see how it overwinters. If youd tossed thst out a month ago you could have been in really good shape. Make plans to plan next year! :)

Have fun!!
