Did you mix any surfactant in with the Tenacity to help it stick to leaves/blades?

Yup, surfactant/sticker was mixed in.crabgrass wrote:Did you mix any surfactant in with the Tenacity to help it stick to leaves/blades?
I just had rain right after I sprayed it, and was wondering if that would have been a negative.
I suspect it rained for 10 minutes or so and then stopped so, I can't say how much was still 'stuck' to the foliage of the weeds and grass.

Re: ZethLent's 2013 KBG Reno in Japan
You will know in 3-5 days! It should still function as a pre-emergent for 2-3 weeks even if it rained. I'm at 2 weeks since spraying and most all my onion grass is still coming up bleached white, but I can see it's power fading as some onion grass is now coming up barely green... It keeps sending up new shoots but they're smaller and smaller, eventually it'll run out of energy to send new shoots up.
What kind of weeds are you actually seeing?

I have identified:
Crabgrass
Chickweed
Oxalis
Purslane
Nutsedge
Spurge
Lambs-quarter
and I think Plantain.

Re: ZethLent's 2013 KBG Reno in Japan
Things are chugging along, I will do the first cut on Saturday. We have had a bit of an Indian Summer the last two weeks. The grass is coming in like mad. I will snap a shot after I have cut the lawn and post it as a day 42 picture.
I do have good results from the Tenacity application(s) I have made. I feel so reassured having it in stock!!

Re: ZethLent's 2013 KBG Reno in Japan
Tenacity did a really good job on Nutsedge and Crabgrass for me, the Purslane grew in a bit deformed, but I ended up picking a lot of it out. But I think the key is getting the monocots under control, the dicots later will be easy to control with 2-4d etc...ZethLent wrote:I have identified:

Re: ZethLent's 2013 KBG Reno in Japan
Yes the purslane seems to have had its growth stunted, but has not 'lightened' in colour.
The oxalis (in my case Creeping Woodsorrel) is turning pink, an interesting thing to watch happen.
The chickweed is seeing the whitened ends start to shrivel up, so too with the henbit that I forgot to list above. I think the Henbit was the most widespread of all of the weeds. It probably came from the soil that I got from my neighbour's driveway excavation. I knew the risk but am not too worried the driveway was originally a farm and had been compacted by cars over a few years.

I noticed the purslane didn't turn white but it did eventually die.

Re: ZethLent's 2013 KBG Reno in Japan
I did an application of Urea mid week last week to coincide with some rain that fell.
The first cut happened on Saturday morning Day 43. I cut with my rotary push mower and not the reel, at 2.25". I'll be cutting once more this evening; and calling it cut #2.
Here is a post cut #1 pic.
It is looking very nice, and I am very happy with it.

Yes, looks really nice! I think I can see the remnants of some tenacity bleaching here an there? I've been doing Urea at 1 lb per K (1/2 lb/K Nitrogen) for the past 4 weeks and it's made a tremendous difference outgrowing anything else that was there.

Re: ZethLent's 2013 KBG Reno in Japan
I sprayed with Nitrites and some Act Sweet (local Actinovate option) this morning. We are seeing a once in every ten year typhoon blow through tonight and tomorrow, I should be good for watering with that. I'll have to see how much rain we get. I'll be putting some more Urea down on the weekend.
I won't be doing any more Tenacity (last weekend I did a third application of 4oz/acre). I have to say, it is an odd thing to see the whitening, instead of the more typical browning of the weeds.
I think my next big dose will be 6 pounds of Phosphorus in the beginning of November. Then by the end of November I should be close to my winterizer application of Nitrogen.
Question: How long should I continue the nitrites and bacteria applications? I am doing them once every three weeks right now.
Thanks.

I generally fade-out my proactives around October 1st. I'd say that's OK as long as you don't have a history of Rust or Powdery Mildew.

Is that more of a temperature averages decision, or another factor?

Yeah, temperatures indirectly. Both good and bad fungal activity falls off as the soil cools - at some point you're spending money to fight an enemy that isn't fighting any more...

Re: ZethLent's 2013 KBG Reno in Japan
Well the reno just got slammed by a once in ten years typhoon (I live in part of the red zone on the map shown in the link, right by where the line touches the land). I'll measure later but I think we got about 10 inches of rain here.
The grass is still green and nothing is damaged. I saw no puddling anywhere on the lawn, so I feel safe in saying that my grading did the trick. The only flooding was in perimeter flowerbeds.
It was a wild storm though.

Re: ZethLent's 2013 KBG Reno in Japan
It has been two weeks of rain and stormy weather. We have had several typhoons bring huge amounts of rain.
I was finally able to get cut 2 done this weekend. It is looking great. A little bit yellow around the perimeter due to all of the rain collecting in those areas.
Here is this evening day 58 / week 8.
The light spots are sun reflecting off a neighbour's windows as the sun sets.

Congratulations! I hope you have better success with the KBG. Again, another example of a member following the correct steps, asking the important questions, and taking appropriate action. Between you, and Ocelaris and a few others on here, renovations are becoming a recipe for success.

I applied Ferrous Sulphate last weekend. I haven't really noticed much change in colour, but I am sure it must be there.
