Stack316's Side Yard Renovation Fall 2014

Post by stack316 » July 26th, 2014, 6:57 pm

Excited with my the results of my Front yard renovation (http://aroundtheyard.com/renovations/st ... 12008.html), this year it is time to do the side. The side is a mix of grass, mostly full sun. Although I love my TTTF front, I am switching over to the KBG side. Although I mentioned that I was planning this renovation, already had the seed (Bewitched monostand), soil moist, sprinklers, hoses, timers, it was just talk. Well ladies and gentlemen, it had officially began on 7/24 when I ghyphosate (41%) the lawn. Below are the pictures from 7/26, no real visual signs of the kill, a lot of tracker still showing. I don't expect the same kill as I did last year, as I rushed the process, there was a slight wind, it was a after a long day of work.

these 2 are older pictures, prob April 2013

Scalping completed. Got it down to 1.5 inches with the timemaster. Took three passes and well over an hour to complete. And yes it looks like I missed some spots. Hope to get sprinklers set up tomorrow night to begin fallowing. I forgot how much grass is bagged scalping. And how dirty I get. Part 2 and 3 completed

I did the same last night with my Timemaster as well. I thought since I started taking it down on saturday it would be a little easier to take down to 1.5" but it wasnt and i too was a mess and beat today.

How light of an app of Urea do you drop for fallowing?

I'll have to research, I had no plan to drop Urea.

I plan to drop 1/2 app of starter 1 week before planned seed drop. (nothing on seed day)

The only ingredient needed for fallowing is Water, shallow and frequent.

I thought a light app of Urea was part of the process and was trying to figure out what light actually meant (1/4 bag rate, 1/2, etc)

You may be getting confused with light apps of urea to promote some spreading of kbg after sprout and pout stage

You don't HAVE to fertilize when you fallow, but it will help get little weeds to grow so you can kill them and see them. Urea is a cheap source of N.

Your crispy dead lawn doesn't look that different than your neighbors lawn now!

I followed your TTTF Reno last year closely as I reno'd with TTTF and was about 10-14 days behind so I got a glimpse into my future with your updates...thanks

Well that was a long tiring day. A lot hotter than I was hoping for

Started with having to do 3 passes with the drop spreader for even coverage think I went up 18lbs of seed as I ran out of the initial 15lbs during the 3rd pass. Rolling, dropping 10-10-10, spraying thrive and tenacity was easy. The peat moss (used 9 bales 3cu as I have very little shade) kicked my [banned word]. Numerous drink and breaks Finally re-setting up the sprinklers and running them for proper coverage took longer than expected All in all 10:20am to 4pm to complete
