Jump Start Kentucky Bluegrass
I have 2 renovations going on at the moment. A large one in my front yard and a mini renovation in back. Next to the mini renovation in back I mowed an area down to 1.5 inches. Hit it lightly with a plant growth regulator and over seeded with Jump Start Kentucky Bluegrass. I seeded 15 days ago and those sprouts are already almost 2 inches tall and poking through the Tall Fescue everywhere. It looks like this cultivar has been truly bred to over seed with. Of course it is not considered to be a dark cultivar but I was more or less experimenting out of curiosity to see if this cultivar lived up to it's name. I imagine they'll breed more cultivars for quick establishment in the future. Here's the tech sheet on Jump Start:

What is this "plant growth regulator" you describe? Is it something to slow down the existing grass being overseeded, to give the new grass a better chance? Any specific recommendations on a brand or where to get it? (I am planning to overseed about 3300 sq feet this fall and wonder if I should be considering something like that -- never even heard about it as a possibility until reading BL/ATY.)gryd wrote:... Search for Primo on the forums - but basically you have the right idea, KnN.

If Primo Maxx is too expensive then search for Embark Plant Growth Regulator:ken-n-nancy wrote:What is this "plant growth regulator" you describe? Re: Jump Start Kentucky Bluegrass
I may not have needed the growth regulator with Jump Start. I can't believe how tall these Jump Start seedlings are! They need to make a Jump Start Bewitched or JS Blueberry, JS Midnight, etc.....

Re: Jump Start Kentucky Bluegrass
This turned out to be a very fun and cool experiment. This Jump Start KBG had no sprout and pout and behaves very much like PRG. I look forward to the development of more (darker) cultivars that exhibit the establishment characteristics of Jump Start.

gryd,
Wondering about your Jump Start test. After living with it for a year do you have an evaluation?
