Re: HoosierLawnGnome fall 2016 renovation - weeds n such
Applied some fungicide to my rose bushes and boxwood hedges I just planted.
I also applied fungicide to rust spots.
Mowed the grass @ 2.5 inches - it's not slowing down, except for where the rust is inhibiting growth.

How are you able to get these applications down with all this rain?
I noticed a spot with rust from my dear neighbor rust infested lawn, but I haven't been able to find a window of opportunity. I hit it with urea but would like to do some fungicide.

I put it down a few hours before the rain came at our place. It was a contact fungicide so I got the dual benefit of hitting the foliage and soil that way.

Spoon fed some more urea yesterday and still cutting at 2.5 in. The fungicide and urea have knocked the rust down a good bit.

If only you had ended up working that gig in Indy....
It was a milestone birthday party. Let's just say there was a little bit of pressure to have grass when I started this project.
"Oh? We are going to celebrate a milestone birthday outside with some high profile guests? NO PROBLEM LET'S NUKE THE D@MN THING."

It's OK. I found someone else to help me drink the John Walker & Sons Odyssey.
PS: whose Milestone? Your's? Please don't say that you were stupid enough to nuke the lawn near The Boss' birthday...

It was mine. I may be dumb but I'm not THAT dumb.
For The BOSS' milestone party this fall nothing but a pristine blueberry monostand will be acceptable. None of that lumpy looking renovation in progress crapp.

Re: HoosierLawnGnome fall 2016 renovation - weeds n such
Rust came back after a brief decline. Top growth slowing considerably particularly where the rust is prevalent.
We have had little rain over the last few weeks. I'm going to have to water some. 70s this week.
I've put the fertilizer away until winterizer. Need to get triclopyr down again this week and start lowering the height of cut before Thanksgiving. Might put out some propacanazil down too.
Hunting season is here so I'll be out in the woods a lot the next couple months, chopping wood for the fireplaces, winterizing things.
No frost yet or in the forecast.

Blanket sprayed triclopyr at 1 qt per acre rate last night. Mulched leaves up and cut the back beforehand. Yeah I broke the 2 day rule on that area but it was better to do both before rain comes than only one.

Mowed last night @ 2.5" - took off an inch or so (growth from last 3 weeks). The grass looks much better now - the rust did a number on the color, and left some yellowing foliage at the top.

Walked the yard. Lots of <6" spots to fill in. Tulips are coming in.

Re: HoosierLawnGnome fall 2016 renovation - weeds n such
I went ahead and tossed out seed in thin spots last night. We have a few weeks of warm (for Feb) weather coming up. I still have plenty of seed for more touchups.
That basically means I'm going to have to use Tenacity for the first month to put down a pre-emergent barrier. I think this is the best way to go for me now, because I need to treat for wild onion and some other easier-to-kill broadleaves anyways.

I've been slowly moving the blueberry sod in my future rose garden out into the bare spots as plugs with my post hole digger.
I still have areas of thatch that are sparsely filled with grass. The squirrels have done a number under the treeline by the creek too.
This should be an interesting spring! Things are waking up!

Just curious what your squirrel damage looks like? I'm trying to figure out the culprit of the damage pictured below.HoosierLawnGnome wrote: ↑February 22nd, 2017, 4:55 pm

Looks like vole damage to me. I've had that happen to me. Rake out, spread some seed, fertilize and it will fill in. Then next year....... Do it all over again.

That's what I said when Mitten posted the same picture previously - vole damage without the well-defined runways

Will pendimethilin prevent wild onion from sprouting?HoosierLawnGnome wrote: ↑February 14th, 2017, 1:15 pmI went ahead and tossed out seed in thin spots last night. We have a few weeks of warm (for Feb) weather coming up. I still have plenty of seed for more touchups.

(I'm not planting seed so no need for tenacity)
For the wild onion that is already popping up, will 2,4D + dicamba take it out?
