NCLG, the lawn looks darn good.
How's the new mower working for you? I would expect it to be quite a time saver, with your size lawn. What height are you mowing with it?

Thanks Tony. Love the mower, the cut is so clean. Can mow the whole lawn in 40-45 min.Tony alony wrote:NCLG, the lawn looks darn good.

NCLG, looks gorgeous!! I'm now convinced that your techniques are the perfect example, and an inspiration, of the mastery of lawncare. You've taken a new piece of land and shown how well you can manage your environment. That is; a different soil than you had before, and in short order; turned it around to another beautiful lawn. Congrats!!

I'm impressed with how good the fescue looks, especially after looking at the before pics.
Have you done a jar of soil composition test?

No, but it will probably show high content of sand.probasesteal wrote:I'm impressed with how good the fescue looks, especially after looking at the before pics.

Looks good. That's a solid-looking lawn for people who aren't nuts like we are. I know it's nothing compared to your most recent KBG lawn and it's not even up to your old TTTF blend, but considering what you're working with, it looks great. It's looks as good as my low-input area during the Fall. It's nice to satisfy your lawn craving until you reno, huh?
Did you mean that you overseeded again, more recently?

No, just one overseed in October. Also have been feeding monthly since September.Green wrote:Looks good. That's a solid-looking lawn for people who aren't nuts like we are.

I used Lebanon winning colors, the cultivars were Monet, Van Gogh and Davinchi. That was the best variety I could get locally, needed three 50lb bags.

NCLG - if you could go more into detail about how you edge out your garden beds and, your plan in general, I would appreciate it. I'm sort of looking at doing some similar work at the moment and I can tell that you've got a really good handle on it.

Re: NCLG Lawn and Landscape Reno Thread
I draw up a plan and then measure everything out, usually a few different times to make sure it is the way I want. You want to have enough space for what you want to plant, this is important. Next I use white marking paint to mark out the beds. Then I look at it, drink a few beers, look at it some more. I usually let it sit for a week or more to make sure I do not want to change anything, which I usually do a few times.Green wrote:Same here! Once i am satisfied, I edge out with a shovel, it's a lot of work, but gets the best results. I edge the around the outside and then 4 or 5" on the inside and the grass with soil picked right up. It is important to edge out before the hit with round up or the grass will not pick right up making the job harder. Then I hit the inside of the bed with round up. What until all dead, mow or trim the dead stuff, plant and mulch. I have some progress pics from some beds in my front i got planted over the weekend. I still need to mulch.

Re: NCLG Lawn and Landscape Reno Thread
Got some of my tree and shrub beds done over the weekend. I still have to mulch, getting some triple ground hardwood bark mulch delivered.
Small corner tree bed - Acer Palmatum 'Orangeola'
Driveway matching beds - Rose creek abelia (3) line the driveway. Blue star juniper on the corner and a Monrovia ever red fringe Loropetalum in the middle.

nclawnguy,
That really looks great! What exactly has been your Maintenance Schedule that you're referring too? You say you have been feeding monthly since September... with what Fertilizer? And do you Fertilize every single month? At Half Strength or at Full Strength bag rate? Did you keep watering each week since last September?
Thanks!
