Re: Nick's rookie Reno Day 30 pics
Here's day 30. It looks ok but still has a long way to go. Way more things look like a weed in a Kbg monoculture. I think I may fertilize with milo because of the varying stages of the grass right now. Don't want urea or AMS sitting on top burning if I didn't get it watered in good enough.

Re: Nick's rookie Reno Day 30 pics
I've been pulling weeds all week. I have crabgrass, quack, some other wide bladed rhizome producing grass, piles of nutsedge, annua and some bunch type grass I think it's rye.
We've had a few inches of rain this week. I came home yesterday to find new sprouts floating in the standing water. That sucks. Although the ground is soft enough to pull the quack and the rhizome along with it about 1 of every 5 trys.
Grass in shady spot is growing like crazy and needs cut again but I think I will hold off and do tenacity follow up app. on Saturday.
It is starting to fill in nicely and look like a lawn again. When I glance out the window there isn't a big difference between the reno and the rest of the yard anymore.

Nick, are you seeing the effects of the follow-up Tenacity app yet? What types of weeds to you have?
I've got a lot of spurge and purslane, and I'm debating over whether to spend the time pulling them (and disturbing some of my KBG seedlings) or to apply my follow up Tenacity app and let it take care of them.

Re: Nick's rookie Reno Day 34 pics
I sprayed Sunday. I have not seen any bleaching yet. It can take up to a week. I have spurge, foxtail, crabgrass, quack grass and a bunch type grassy weed(maybe leftover annual rye from previous seedings). Tenacity will address some but not all of those. I've been hand pulling the bunch type after good rains. It is cool here and that does affect how tenacity works. Cooler equals less effective. I'm going to spray again this Sunday.
From what I've read you're safe at 28 days after seed down. That's not the conventional wisdom here however. I'm using up all my 16 oz per acre this fall. No sense in letting the weeds go into spring.

First ever urea app down and watering in now. I can't wait to see how it does with the urea apps.
I was scared of dropping too heavy so I went with a conservative setting and ended up having to do 4 passes. I'll open it up a notch next week.

Sunday's Tenacity dose is doing work on the nutsedge and some of the clumpy grasses. I wrongly assumed that tenacity would kill spurge. It's not labeled for it and has not affected it. Anyone that has a go to chemical for spurge chime in please. I'm going to pull as much as I can. We got a gully washer last night and the gully runs right through the middle of our backyard. No damage just corn cobs and corn debris. Planning another tenacity app on Sunday.

FML, that's not what I was hoping to hear. I guess I know what I'm doing today.edenl01 wrote:I wrongly assumed that tenacity would kill spurge. It's not labeled for it and has not affected it. Anyone that has a go to chemical for spurge chime in please. I'm going to pull as much as I can.

Triclopyr will kill spurge, Bayer brush killer is labeled to kill it, but CCO isn't, so it might be the % Triclopyr.

This stuff is labeled for spurge and purslane. Label says to wait until you've mowed 3 times on newly established lawns, it's a 2,4-D herbicide. http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/monte ... -2852.html

Re: Nick's rookie Reno Day 41 pics
Thanks for the suggestions in spurge control. I will write that down in my notebook. So far I've been able to keep it manageable with a needle nose pliers and a 5 gallon bucket. I'm a little early yet for post- em herbicides but should i need them I'll definitely know what I need to use.

Did a tenacity app at 4 oz per acre rate. That's all she wrote for Tenacity for me. Hopefully this second app a week from the last will kill rather than just highlight.

Good info. I wondered why the generic 2,4-D wasn't labeled for spurge.LoneRanger wrote:^ with mecoprop. That is the AI used to kill spurge, purslane and others.

Re: Nick's rookie Reno Day 41 pics
your progress looks similar to mine. but i'm surprised you used 8oz of tenacity already. was it a previously used bottle or did you just blow your yearly allowance during seeding? doesn't seem like an acre in the photos.

Re: Nick's rookie Reno Day 41 pics
Spot sprayed prior to the Reno (dumb) 4oz/ac
Seed down 4 oz/ac
Mid 30's day follow up 4 oz/ac
7 days later 4 oz/ac
The model I'm following is a poa annua control model used by some golf courses. The spot spray was a waste and not part of that plan.
So far all that tenacity has killed is nutsedge and a weed here or there. I'm not too concerned that I can't use it until next fall. With all the other chemicals that are lower in the triangle I should be just fine. My no mix looks pretty good without it. It seems nuts to burn up all the apps so soon but I'd rather kill junk now than let it overwinter and be tougher to kill. Moving forward I will be more thoughtful with my usage.

Re: Nick's rookie Reno Day 41 pics
With tenacity is it 16oz on actual turf, or 16oz in the soil that is the limiting factor? If you did it prior to reno it might not be an issue if its just a turf consideration, and not a build up in the soil issue.
