On mine, I used my 48" walkbehind on Day 56. The curb weight on my walkbehind is 565 lbs and the lawn handled it just fine. Just make sure the ground is somewhat dry. I'm sure your ztr probably weighs more though.

The curb weight is ~650 pounds, plus my 240 pound self. I'm thinking to give it another few weeks, and let it dry out quite a bit. It's not really damp on the surface constantly anymore, but definitely still soft. Last year we were cutting into January, hoping I can ride it before then. That would make for a long fall/winter :banghead:

Looks good. I might wait until spring for the Walk-behind, the turns are just too touch on shallow roots.

First update of 2017. The lawn is still green, and is actually growing following an 8" snow last week. The blade tips were a little yellow after the snow melted, but it seems to have bounced back and everything is looking healthier. I would hazard a guess that 65 degrees and plenty of moisture will do that. I do have some weeds that I'm dealing with, but I'm scared to do anything about it in the middle of winter. I don't know what they are, but it's a low growing plant that would resemble clover or spurge. There are several patches of really light green grass mixed in sporadically. Hoping it's just a different shade of TTTF cultivar and not Poa.

I will continue to cut until the grass stops growing. Cutting infrequently now, maybe once every few weeks. Should I stop all together? Here's a few pics. It's still filling out, and I'm seeing new sprouts pop up in my mulch beds and in a few bare areas every once in a while. Definitely looking forward to spring!

Man, it feels like NC is starting to get an early spring. That's what my allergies are telling me anyways. Bad news... I am overrun with 2 different issues. I am 99% sure I have a Poa Annua problem, and something widespread that's in bloom with a tiny flower on top (possibly spurge blooms?)

Yeah, those seedheads look like poa annua seedheads to me.

I didn't see a picture of the undesireable plant with tiny flower on top, but chickweed does that.

Newbie question. I have always had dead/dormant grass in February, so I've never seen a lawn life cycle quite like this. At the moment, I have as many weeds as I have TTTF. When should I start considering weed control, and what should I be using? I definitely want to stay away from Tenacity after my fiasco with it last year, I will reevaluate that in the fall.

How old was the TTTF lawn when it went to sleep (assuming it went to sleep)?

I seeded in mid-September, and it really hasn't stopped growing completely. It has been green all winter, with very little top growth (but growth nonetheless).

Then if you have mixed salad greens in it, I would look up and start the Triangle Approach. If it's a single weed variety (or two), ID them and get to correcting the problem...

Should I wait until spring formally arrives, or would it hurt to start spraying now?

Need some herbicide help guys. Have a problem with multiple weeds in my lawn, but the big ones right now are: Chickweed, Clover, Oxalis, and Poa Annua.

I have several options and could use the help deciding which way to go.

1) WBG Concentrate
2) Triclopyr (Ortho WBG Chickweed, Clover & Oxalis, Bayer Advanced Brush Killer)
3) Tenacity (Applied 9 oz/acre divided into two applications roughly 6 months ago)

I'm following the triangle approach. I'm still a complete rookie (first spring with real grass), so I'm not telling you to do this, but rather this is the plan I've come up with after some reading.

1. 2,4-D with MCPP and Dicamba - sprayed this last week
2. Tenacity and Triclopyr - 2 weeks after the 2,4-D app. Might apply this twice depending on results. I have 8 oz./1000 sq ft of Tenacity to use on my lawn before 01 Sep, so I'll do 4 oz/ 1000 sq ft twice (if necessary).
3. Painting with glyophosate/ammonium sulfate anything left over (I know there's quack in there) and hoping the KBG fills the holes.

CCO for sure. Then worry about the POA. You'll want to prevent that in the fall with Pre-em but the other weeds will spread this summer. If you get it killed off then you can move to the next step with Tenacity, but I wouldn't go too crazy trying to kill everything at once on the new lawn.

Spring Update:

Weeds- One application each of WBG and CCO have done a number on the broadleaf's and chickweed. The last application was sprayed on 4/19 so there is still some die off occurring, but the majority of the weeds are knocked off. The resilient ones will get a 3rd spot spray if they're not gone after next week.

Growth- Growth is very quick over 95% of the lawn. I'm having to mow every 3-4 days, and removing 1.5" each cut. I'm maintaining 4" right now. There are still 2 spots in the lawn that haven't picked up any height yet. They're green and you cannot see soil, but they're 1.5" in height (roughly 5 sq. ft. patches).

Fertilizer- I have put out one synthetic dose of fertilizer and one application of milorganite. This equates to 1.6 lbs/k of nitrogen this spring. Milorganite went out 3/25 and the synthetic went down 4/22. Don't know how much more fertilizer I'm going to need this spring. My soil test from the fall recommended 18-24-12 at 4 lbs/k monthly, but that seems like a lot of fertilizer...

Any spring tips that I'm missing? This is my first year going through "green-up" and resuming growth. Thanks guys! This forum is phenomenal. I'll get some pics up shortly.

Lawn is looking phenomenal. Still mowing twice a week. We've had consistent rain and 70-80 degree temps for the last few weeks. I'll post pics as soon as the issue with IMG tags are resolved.

Looking ahead for the next 2 weeks, there's very little rain in the forecast. When should I start looking at turning on irrigation systems for the year?

Here's a few pics from the spring. Currently mowing at 4.25", twice a week. There are very few weeds left to fight, but I do have a problem with Po Ann. I'll take care of it in the fall.
