Re: Syntaxx 2016 10-12k Renovation.....
7.21.16 :
raked and scalped, two passes colleted about 50 bushels of material. Remaining dead growth is about 2".
Yard machine with jury rigged rake.
I may rake it until seed down to ensure no matting occurs. I dont think i will trim down the hight much more to ensure some errosion control on slopes.

8.7.16
Seed down on 2k of 10k.
Since the area is sloped i decided to run a slit seeder over it.. but in only one direction....horizontally across the slope. The idea being if a washout was to occur the seed in the slots should survive, which is my experience in past projects. The slit seeder was only used for creating the slots. The seed itself was broadcast and soilmoist seed coat applied. The seed was then rolled to close the slots.
Then it was time to topdress with peat moss. This year I decided to buy a compost spreader tonlay down the peat moss. The time saved was yuuuuuuge...belive me! I took a comfortable pace and covered the area in 2 hours. That includes driving the tractor to opposite side of yard to fill the loader bucket. It actually took longer to fill than to lay down the material. Scotts starter with tenacity was applied and the surface was rolled again.
Irrigation installed and 1st application of water.
Last year and the year prior i had mass germination in about a week. Hoping for the same this year.

Re: Syntaxx 2016 10-12k Renovation.....
Zone 1, 14 days post seeding
Zone 2 , 11 days post seeding.
Interesting to note that zone 2 is just barely sporting a green fuzz at 11 days vs zone 1 fuzzing much earlier. Im sure zone one being shaded and maintaining moisture longer is the reason.
Zones 3 (2 plots to immediate right of zone 1) and 4 (2 plots immediate left of zone 2)
Zone 3, seeded 8/18/16 and zone 4 seeded 8/19/16 both 3k sqft each.
All told, total area seeded this year was 10k sqft with 7 zones of irrigation totaling 20 rotorheads coupled with two 4 zone melnor hydrologic timers watering 4 times a day at 4 hour intervals for 10 minutes each. If conditions call for it manual watering occurs. Total peat moss used was 110cuft which was 2 of the 55cuft bales I procured.

Syntaxx, what's the ratio of your Blueberry/Prosperity/Bewitched mix? I decided on this exact mix today, I was planning on 33%/33%/33% of each.

Re: Syntaxx 2016 10-12k Renovation.....
One more quick question - SSS suggests applying this mix at 2 lb / 1000 ft2. Is that the rate you used, are using? Thanks again.

Re: Syntaxx 2016 10-12k Renovation.....
I've seen recommended rates between 2-3# per 1000sqft. I believe I use the 3# rate, I'd have to check my notes if I even marked it down.LeftField11 wrote:One more quick question - SSS suggests applying this mix at 2 lb / 1000 ft2. Is that the rate you used, are using? Thanks again.

SyNtAxx, how's the germination going in this heat? I plan to have seed in the ground this week.

Re: Syntaxx 2016 10-12k Renovation.....seeding under way
I had germination (sporatic) in about 5 days...with visable green fuzz from distance at 7 days. I actually seeded another 2k on 8/10/16. I havent looked at that area yet but i expect it is germinating.
I have another 8k or so to seed. I will probably knock out the majority of that 5his seekend. If not all. I mixed 30# of seed blend for the drop. I will have some left over in case i need to spot seed.
