Re: Paul's 2016 Bewitched Monostand Renovation - Seed Down!
Seed down yesterday! Order of sequence as follows:
Seeded in 4 different directions @ 2.5 lbs/1000 sqft
Rolled in 2 different directions
Scott's starter with Mesotrione
18 - 3 Cubic feet bales of Peat Moss spread by a Peat moss spreader (totally underestimated the amount of Peat moss I would need)
Watered each zone for 45 minutes to get the Peat Moss and soil thoroughly soaked.
Will water 4 times a day for 10 minutes per zone.
Just praying for no severe thunderstorms for the next week or so.

Thanks ken-n-nancy.
Got some good thunder showers last night, and all seed looks like they stayed in place which is always good. The Peat Moss really helped. This week is dry again. We really need some more rain in the Northeast, but not complaining too much due to the renovation.

Paul's 2016 Bewitched Monostand Renovation - Germinating!
Thanks, I'm really excited I see this much germinating @ the 1 week time frame. No thunderstorms have helped, but we really need some rain here in the Northeast.

Very nice. Are you seeing a big difference between your shady and sunny areas? I am. My shady areas look like yours, my sunny areas don't have any sprouts yet, day 12. I have two south-facing slopes and they get cooked everyday. We've also had 90 degree temps almost everyday since my seed went down, so I'm blaming the slowness in the sunny areas on that.

Looks really good for day 9. I did the turf toes approach as well. Did .17 lbs per k of N per 1k.
From your test plot experience how much would you say it spreads after awhile?

I'm at day 15 and when I saw these pics with all the trees in the background I was thinking the same thing. My day 9-10 was similar to his in shady areas, but my sunny areas only have a sprout or two per square foot coming up this far out. Though I don't think we actually hit 90 since I put the seed down, both Saturday and Sunday had highs of 88. I'm still noticing the green areas spreading every day, and it's still early so there's plenty of time for it to close in on the sunny areas.LeftField11 wrote:Very nice. I'm jealous how awesome Paul's yard looks already. Keep it up!

Re: Paul's 2016 Bewitched Monostand Renovation - Germinating
To answer a few of everyone's questions:
"Are you seeing a big difference between your shady and sunny areas" - Yes, the shady areas are coming along faster than the sunnier areas. I don't really have any parts of my lawn that get full sun all day long. As you can see, there are a fair amount of trees.
"From your test plot experience how much would you say it spreads after awhile"? - It really spread the following May and June. I had bare areas about the size of a softball, and by the July, the areas were full besides the two areas that get very little sun.
"Two weeks post seed down, or two weeks post germination"? - 14 days post seed down. I plan on hitting it this Thursday, then giving it a good watering. Since seed down, it's been hot and dry with very little cloud cover.
I would like to cut back to watering 3 times per week, but we are just not getting any rain at all. Probably shouldn't complain after I see the washouts from other people's renovations. My plan is to go the 3X a day starting next week. The temps should drop by then.
