19 and 15 is perfect! Those ages if kids like to eat and have cars and phones... I like having my beds weeded. It's a perfect match!

I doubt I'll get even one cut in this year as Bewitched is a very slow starter.

I was cutting my Bewitched at 3 weeks so I think you will get in a few cuts this year. Now I need to cut it every 4 days or my Honda Mower starts choking.

I'm out of town on business but my wife texted me a picture of first sprouts, today is one week since seed went down.

She's a keeper. :good:

Bring her back something nice. Like a greens mower.

More photos from Day 8. Better germination in the sunny areas, shady areas are a few days behind.

Lots of acorns coming down and leaves are starting. That's going to be a challenge.

Some new pix, I'm on Day 26. I put down a light coat of urea today and plan on first mow with a reel mower on Friday or Sunday of next week. Leaves are going to be an issue soon. I'm skipping another round of Tenacity; with the shade I have I don't want to lose any grass that can't outgrow it. I started with extremely clean soil. I'm also backing off on the watering a bit early, at this point I care less about new germination of KBG (I've done this enough to know I have a good enough base for next spring); I'm more worried about weed germination now that the Tenacity barrier is diminished; I'm also being extra careful regarding the leaf spot type diseases that young grass is susceptible to.

JG, was looking at the pix from today, wow! Great plan and execution. May I ask you when you will use your pots for repair? I have about 15 but only a couple seem ready, the others are whispy and thin. I'm trying to decide whether to put them into the yard to cover some bare spots now or hope they mature in a week or two and put them in then. I'm wondering about the inevitable frost that will come and the trade off between getting the pots acclimated into the ground or more mature in their pots. I know you have extensive experience with repairs via pots. Thanks, and again, great job!

In past years I've transplanted the pots around Thanksgiving, irrespective of frosts, etc. Ground is usually still in the 50's. Mine weren't done well (not enough soil), and I really only see if a few areas that could use them. I don't think they need much time at all before winter hits; keep in mind they are actually getting colder out of the ground then in, so its not as if they were coming from a grow room.

That makes good sense, thanks for the guidance. I will proceed accordingly and give them some more time. And again, great job on the renovation!

Gave the lawn its first cut at 1.5 inches Wednesday evening; leaves are a bit of a challenge as are the nuts since I'm using a reel mower (bought the Fiskar 18" model, works much, much better than my old Sears one).

We had a very cool week but it is supposed to warm up. Hoping I get a few more cuts in this year. This should darken up a bit, Tuesday was 5 weeks.

I have a funny feeling that the color will "improve a little" between now and Memorial Day.

Really nice for a late start.

My wife said she likes the color, go figure. I'm spoon feeding urea; amazing how much easier it is than my current house (which was the point). I fill the Earthway hopper, start in front, go around the perimeter, and back and then a circle or two in the front. Takes about 7-8 minutes.

Hoping for a bit of tillering so we have a better base before winter.
