Re: JG LI's new house seeding...
Yeah I miss that at our last place. I could come home from work, spread fert in my sports coat, then head out to dinner barely breaking a sweat.
Looking sweet! you like growing grass between stepping stones eh?

Re: JG LI's new house seeding...
My wife is a fan of the grass between steps. Me not so much. I need another 10-14 days of a mid-60's so the grass can get to the next stage. Going to spread urea and mow again tomorrow morning.HoosierLawnGnome wrote:Yeah I miss that at our last place. I cut again at 1.5 inches and put more urea down and also sprayed Heritage. Some of the less mature seedling are a bit yellowish, very hard to tell what it going on. Could be they are less mature than other areas.

Welcome back; I use the earthy and do it by touch. Each bag of urea seems to have a different prill size so I open it up slowly until I get an even light distribution.

Re: JG LI's new house seeding...
I used to try to figure out the number, now I put in a rough idea of how many pounds of fertilizer I want to spread and eyeball it. Anyone have new way of posting photos that is easy?
BTW, what grass are you using; keep away from Blueberry or Moonlight if you have any sort of SummerPatch worries. Go with Midnight or Bewitched.

Yep, last weekend. Going to try to get anti-dessicant sprayed on the new shrubs today or sometime this week.

Re: JG LI's new house seeding...
I haven't been in the reno forum much and just saw this. Looking great! You definitely did the reno top tier and so far have great results. The high quality topsoil should make a huge difference in the years ahead. The fact that the old soil and the new soil test similar just shows that there is more to soil than the numbers.

It's looking great! Are those granular mulch pellets I see in the photos? If so, where did you buy them from? I have an area at the end of my L-shaped driveway that gets a lot of washout so I need something to keep the seed in place. Granular mulch pellets might do the trick. Peat moss just washes away with the first decent rain.

Those pellets are PennMulch. They work great.

Re: JG LI's new house seeding...
I buy them from a commercial landscape supplier. Lowe's sells them under a different name (forgot what its called), the product is made by Lebanon. That encap looks like the same thing.

Re: JG LI's new house seeding...
I found them at Lowe's in a 30lb bag for $12.50. The encap brand looks like it comes in a 12Lb bag for the same price so if the product is the same Lowe's is a way better deal. You also get 10% off at Lowe's if you buy 4 bags.jglongisland wrote: ↑February 12th, 2017, 2:55 pmI buy them from a commercial landscape supplier. Re: JG LI's new house seeding...
I've sampled both. They're not the same product. They also have different coverage rates. Encap will spread more evenly, because of it's shape. Its emulsifier also acts as a tackifier. When these qualities are taken into consideration, it is a superior product.

Go to know they are not the same product. Always hard to know if the packaging is the only difference. Thanks for the info.LoneRanger wrote: ↑February 15th, 2017, 9:26 amI've sampled both. Re: JG LI's new house seeding...
I purchased 3 bags for my 2500 sq ft reno that I plan to seed this weekend - weather depending. The only box store that has it for pickup is Menard's. I had a coworker who lives in Ohio pick it up for me. The odd thing is they only keep 4 bags in stock and have to order more in to keep 4 in stock. Either way, I saved on shipping and it's much easier and cheaper for me to use Encap than to use peat, so why not?mitten wrote: ↑February 15th, 2017, 10:31 pmGo to know they are not the same product. Did you try Lowe's? I was able to confirm that it's the same exact product as PennMulch. They just use the GreenView label.Bucky wrote: ↑March 29th, 2017, 11:48 pmI purchased 3 bags for my 2500 sq ft reno that I plan to seed this weekend - weather depending.
