Congrats on seed-down! Curious to hear how this goes for you. I'm now considering a Mazama monostand for some areas to be renovated this fall...

Have a couple dry(er?) days. Applied glyphosate to remaining grass areas in lawn. Backpack spray failed hard. Leaked all over me so took a shower and pulled out the trusty 2-gallon hand-held sprayer.
That's kind of scary. Good thing you washed yourself off right away.
Yeah. Unfortunately I have to do another spray because it looks like the first one is not killing anything. I had to mow because it was still growing aggressively and I don't want seedheads again - already bagged those 5 days ago.

On the positive, you still have grass...for now.

I'll get some small individual cultivar pots going as to compare Award vs. Bewitched vs. Mazama. Mazama is supposedly one of the more wider-bladed varieties according to NTEP. It will be interesting to see how it performs against the other two, as most America-types are typically faster-growing and lighter than Compact/Compact-Midnight types. I haven't been able to find the parental line yet. Wondering where the breeders were able to get the exceptionally dark color from...

This sounds interesting. Do you have a link to the NTEP data on Mazama? (sorry if I missed it in the thread).

May 22nd: I started my pots and until this morning I had about 10 blades of KBG grass that have come up. As of this morning (day 9) I have widespread germination in my pots. The weather has seemingly been perfect for germination -- low to high 70s during the day and 40-50 at night. Plentiful sun and lots of dew helping keep the soil moist from evening to late morning. Getting really excited to check the yard tomorrow and see if anything is happening (day 5 is when I started to see germination in my pots). May the drinking continue!

Nice. I'm starting my pots soon as well. Post some pics once they start getting photo worthy.

FYI, you could probably still get away with walking on it tomorrow, but that might be the last day for a couple of weeks.

^ I'm doing good with the patience thing. I'm pretty certain I spotted a couple blades coming up earlier today. I'm going to ignore it until it's plain as day :)

So, the existing grass is finally dead?

Eh. I'd say 75% is crunchy. I think my mixture of gly was a little weak. It definitely hasn't grown any though. Going to hit it again today and see where it stands next week.

Ouch. Just found out my "C" program wasn't running the last couple days due to user error. That's my whole back reno that went the last 2 days (dry/sunny/windy) without any water. Hopefully the dew kept the seed moist enough to not expire. A bit worried at this point and need some reassurance!

The conditions couldn't have been more perfect for the new seeding. Hoping the soil temps bump up a bit today with a high of 80. Predicting to see a swath of green friendlies by day 9-10 (next Monday/Tuesday).

Did you end up having to walk on it and RU again in spots, or just leaving it be?

Of course. Did another blanket spray. It was probably 95% or greater when I did. Looks like it pretty much took a full week to turn brown and crispy. Good slow kill. I had already scalped it low. After another pass it's around 1/2". It's looking nice...

Tough to get photos but we have decent germination beginning (Day 7)! Time to double down and prepare for the summer :) and probably start drinking more...

Dead grass looks good!

That's great that you're getting germination now so quickly.

So, how much of the yard did you have to RU, and how much of it was regarded by the contractors?
Also, is there a part that you're keeping as-is, and not reno-ing?

Pulled up the germination blankets today and saw massive amounts of my green friendlies! What a sight! I wish it was feasible to use them on my entire yard - the improvement of germination using those things is immense!

Sorry just saw that you responded! About 1500 sq ft I had to RU which is about 20% of my total yard. The rest of the yard was just dirt (which I seeded early).

The whole yard is being renovated. Nothing is as-is.
