Hello - after two years of working to improve the soil quality of my lawn through the soil whisperers here on ATY, I have decided to take my lawn to the next level (no pun intended) and smooth out all of the rough areas around the lawn. I cannot mow as short as I would like without hitting bumps and dips everywhere, which leave unsightly scalp marks from my mower.
My question is: what material is best to level, knowing my lawn (Bermuda) has a high concentration of clay and calcium? I had assumed mason/builder's sand by reviewing these threads, but have also seen that 100% sand will change the characteristics and drainage of my soil. Should I stick with topsoil, or perhaps blend 50/50 topsoil and sand?
The lawn is 2,500 square feet - I would think 2 cubic yards would do it. I plan to complete over the 4th of July while the Bermuda is growing well, and will be sure to post pictures.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
