Re: Greenrebellion's Fall 2017 Renovation
I think the main thing is to find out what it is first. If you have a camcorder or even your phones video camera and can set it out somewhere pointed toward an area they might eat. Leave it there through the night and watch it the next day to try and identify what’s doing the damage. If there’s nothing on the video then maybe it’s worms/bugs of some sort? After identifying what it is then you can decide what the best course of action is.

I was going to say rabbit. The pic looked familiar, as I have a frequent visitor. He is pretty brazen too. He does it right in front of me. The wife thinks it’s adorable. I’ve held back, because up to this point not a super amount of damage. If this rabbit or rabbits are damaging, you could put liquid fence in the backpack.

Ya, its rabbits. It hasn't rained much in 6 weeks. All the lawns are dormant, the weeds aren't growing, they must be hungry.

Leave some carrots and lettuce out for them and maybe they’ll eat that instead.

Haha!
Found out what the lime green areas in my yard are. Big areas of Poa annua infestation!!! So, Tenacity in spring and if that doesn't work, let the lawn go into dormancy in the summer which killed 100% of my Poa annua last year. And of course, stay on top of pre-em.

Take pix. Poa Triv is at its peak now. If you can't spot PT now, you are legally blind

Geez, have you been breaking mirrors and/or walking under ladders? Sorry to hear of the troubles, I'm not sure if these work at all, but the motion activated ultrasonic repellents could be an option:greenrebellion wrote: ↑October 6th, 2017, 5:34 pm
Here's another pic, please if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. Something is eating the blades right to the ground.

Not to hijack the thread, but @MFanIN, to keep deer away from your Arborvitae, buy some cheesecloth or something similar and some bars, must be the bars, of Irish Spring soap. Cut up a little 1" by 1" chunk or so and make a little sachet bag and hang them at about deer nose level on your hedge of AV. You have to replace them every 6mo or a year, but it works on the deer around here!
Try it out and see what happens!
Cheers,
John

Re: Greenrebellion's Fall 2017 Renovation
I got a lot of Poa annua out there!! Anyone know if I can combine a PGR in Spring (for seed head control) with Tenacity or does that combo hurt the KBG? Hoping Andy can chime in as he's the king of Poa plantations.
With an average first frost of Oct. 9th, my final app of Urea went down today (excluding winterizer) and I got it down minutes before the rain started. Got 0.5 inches of rain over a 2 hour period...couldn't have drawn it up any better!
Its till crazy warm, today was 81, the next seven days are mostly in the mid to upper 70's. What a warm fall.

Mostly Poa Trivialis, and I don't use PGR's.Hoping Andy can chime in as he's the king of Poa plantations.

Well, what are you trying to accomplish? I haven't tested tank mixing that particular combination, but for sure - if you apply a PGR and then whiten that grass, it's going to be whiter, longer.greenrebellion wrote: ↑October 7th, 2017, 10:48 pmAnyone know if I can combine a PGR in Spring (for seed head control) with Tenacity or does that combo hurt the KBG?

I'm trying to avoid seed heads, but maybe seed heads don't matter if I keep a pre-em barrier down.

Re: Greenrebellion's Fall 2017 Renovation
What if you just use your moderately aggressive approach plus solid Pre-M regimen for the next couple years? I'm in the same boat and at times it can be easy to succumb to the seemingly overwhelming situation but Poa annua can be beat with time. There will almost always be Poa annua here in Michigan so the best we can do is try to prevent most of it and keep the good grass healthy.

Re: Greenrebellion's Fall 2017 Renovation
Yup, Fusebox, that's the general plan. I'm not too worried about it as long as Tenacity works on the more mature plants (which I imagine it will). Even though I have plenty of Poa annua mixed into my KBG right now, this time around I have enough KBG established to win the battle eventually.

Re: Greenrebellion's Fall 2017 Renovation
Welp, day 60 post seeding is here. Definitely needs some work, but at least this time I have a base from where I can work from. Give me a year or two and I'll have this thing looking amazing.
Pic 1: Shot of the front, lighter green grass in the background area is Poa annua infestation.
Pic 2: This is the most challenging area I have, rust in the foreground and the KBG isn't very thick in the middle and background and lots of powdery mildew, probably a bunch of grassy weeds in there too making it off color.
Pic 3: Next year's reno in the foreground, lighter green area in the middle of the pic appears to be a Poa annua infestation and color is a little off here because it is the hardest hit by rust.
I am skipping fungicides, don't want to kill off good fungi in the soil (I've done enough damage with 4 apps of roundup this year). Serenade every 7 days seems to be keeping the rust/powdery mildew somewhat under control.
All in all, given where I was at this time last year, I'll take what I've got. It is good enough and I can build from here.

Re: Greenrebellion's Fall 2017 Renovation
Who needs a year or two, that looks really good now!
Lighting does make a difference though. I can take a shot of my lawn in the morning and it looks amazing, take the same picture at noon and I see all the flaws
But that is looking good, all this reno stuff isn't for the weak of heart, but come October they do look good.
