Wow, that's one thing about summer thunderstorms in the midwest -- a lot of water drops from the sky in a very short time!

Very glad that most of our rain here in New England tends to be of the slow and steady variety!

Is 3 weeks enough time to make fair assessments in regards to what's going to need spot seeded or not?

It's not late enough for any panic, but first impressions are OK at 21 days.

4 weeks for front and sides.

Three weeks in back.

I spot seeded the front at about 3 weeks. Will do the same out back very soon. Think I had some fungal issues

6 weeks after seed down

Some spots are leaps and bounds ahead of each other even in close proximity. Temps have trended upward which is good news. This renovation has spent too much time in the 40-50 degree range.

Weed pressure is high from both broadleaf and grassy types.

Looks like it came in good overall. I'm also getting a few broadleaf and grassy weeds. Not too many on the broadleaf side but quite a few of a grassy weed. Smast16 thought it might be annual rye but I need to post close up pictures.

We go into it thinking we won't get any weeds at all because of Tenacity and not disturbing the soil. I'm guessing very few reno's get by without getting some weed pressure. It's a punch in the gut seeing them but it's nothing we can't take care of.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks MarineGrunt. This is my second Reno and I think that after the first one you slightly realign your expectations.
I was prepared for weeds of both types but it still pisses you off. I think the key is to figure out when and how you want to attack them.
The front yard came in really nice at first but a good bit of it got knocked out by fungus.
We've had bass akwards weather this year here too. It was cold for the first month and it's starting to heat up now.

Get out there and start spot treating, 6 weeks after seed down is pretty good. Looks healthy. Sounds like SquareOne is safe on new grass immediately after emergence for some grassy weeds according to research at Purdue. Tenacity is technically safe 30 days after emergence and people have experienced safe use well before that. Or wait, doesn't look bad enough you couldn't wait... To be honest it looks pretty darn good :good:

At about 10 weeks/ 70 days.

Back yard came in not as good as expected. Front yard met or exceeded expectations. I avoided rust this year which helped a lot. We've had 6" of rain in the last 2 weeks which has also helped perk it up a bit.

I'm past due on a broad leaf spray. I did do a follow up tenacity app. It was so cold during that period that it more or less ended up being a wasted dose.

It did show me that I have a significant amount of poa Trivialis to deal with moving forward. I'm seeing one patch of poa annua about 3' in diameter.

Looking good. Those little patches aren’t anything you can’t handle. We’ve certainly had weird Iowa weather.

How’s the mole issue? Did you use Trapline? I have mole issues showing up now.

JohnP,

I've set some Traplines with no catch as of yet. As soon as I pulled the hoses off the activity became difficult to track.
The weather has been weird all year. It's either a month long drought or flash flooding with nothing in beteeen. I'm definitely digging this mild fall though.

Any idea what caused the difference between front and back? Do you have any pics?

We have utility lines that run the length of the backyard and a neighbor said they like to run along those. They’re making a shopping center underground i think. Or maybe some condos.

I didn’t notice any issues until we got all the rain this last week.

This is my favorite tune of year.

That's doing well!

Did you get down a "real" pre-emergent for the poa annua? Or is the weather too cold now in your area?

HLG,

I haven't sprayed any prodiamine yet. I'm still on the fence about putting it on baby grass. On one hand I don't want to hinder any root development. On the other, root growth of any significance is getting close to done so it shouldn't be a problem really.

The more I think on it, the better the idea sounds.

Thanks for the nudge on pre-em.
