here are is a shot of the triv/invader after 2 days of being wicked with round up.

Image

Image

While not the best quality pics....it does seem to indicate the wick application might be an option for taking out this problem. What i found the hardest was knowing whether the plant had been wicked/wetted even with tracker dye in it because the intent it to just brush over it with the rope applicator and not saturate it like when spraying. The next thing to overcome would be doing the wick application over a large area. the best would be to apply when the target weed has vastly overgrown the desirable grass as in the photos a few posts above...wait a few days and mow it. Then repeat as needed.

I was thinking like a dust mop...like the kind used on hardwood floors saturated with round up wpuld do tje trick....about 3ft wide so as to make the work of covering large areas manageable.

I made this to hit some weeds is areas that need some precision....works ok...but not for covering open fields.
Image

I dip that in my solution and terminate the weed with no damage to surrounding area...assuming no drips or spills.

So...there you have it...my progress and setbacks to date. Ive never had setbacks like this year...but i did t expect this area to be a cakewalk either as it was very infested. Question is...in the worst section which is about 6000sqft salvagable or a loss? I guess time will tell. Thoughts?

That's a very interesting idea for a way to deal with poa trivialis -- use glyphosate on it when it is taller than the good grass, so as to be able to glypho the triv without applying to the good grass.

I may need to try that when the poa trivialis returns to my lawn again -- I spot-sprayed glyphosate on entire patches of lawn where I had infestations (both good and bad grass) and will be trying to replace the sod/soil in those areas to a depth of a couple inches. Your approach would be far easier if it turns out to be effective!

So its been sone time since i updated this thread. So here we go.

Image

This is probably the best area of the reno...but has started to sprout bright green grass. Whats odd abiut it is they only started to turn bright green after mowing.

Image

The middle part is a disaster...though the kbg is definitely in there. The hill is also prolly going to make it through.

Ive already dropped pre m this past week and so hopefully
some of the seed i dropped before that survive. The pre m surely isnt 100%

Here is what the bright green looked like before the last mowing..it was dark green.

Image

The grass that is growing is definately not growing as vibrant as last year and has had alot more fungal issues. The area has been feed urea a few times already. Anyways we will see what time brings. Thanks.

Considering what you've had to deal with it's looking great. Seems like fungus has nailed a lot of us this year. I got hit hard with Pythium Blight 3 weeks in and lost a lot of grass. I screwed up and identified it wrong at first so it probably shouldn't have spread as bad as it did. It finally cooled off here but, has been wet and hit 80° today, so considering another app of Subdue Maxx as insurance.

Just keep doing what you're doing. Ours lawns will get to where we want them eventually.

yeah..i knew this area was a hotbed of seeds. Im thinking this area will take several years of effort to get her established properly. It will give me time to experiment and a growing season to see if the kbg can overcome the issues of what ever there is knocked back and then i can maintain at 4in cut and block out alot of stuff. Time will tell and i will continue to post pics. Next years areas have very low weed pressure so should be ok. The area this year was basically wild. Thanks.

As i normally do around this time i year...i removed the irrigation system in prep for winter. The temperatures have taken a sharp turn to the brisk side and thus haven given a boost to the growth of the new reno. Here is a shot of the best 6500 feet of the reno...

So a new year begins....well eventually when it warms up here in southeast pa. Here are some shots of the reno area from last year. I had some spots die from fungus and of course the middle which I belive to be a failure. I am going to try sick application of RU since what ever is growing there is way taller than the dormant KBG.

Question is..to dimension or not to dimension?

I'm conflicted because I know this area is a hotbed of weed seeds...just haven't bloomed because it is still cold. On the other hand if I drop dimension I can't spot seed through the spring etc. Guess it's a toss up really. opinion s?

You have good coverage. I'm surprised you're considering skipping the pre-M to be able to spot seed..

So I dropped the pre m hammer and spent time hand pulling tufts of what I belive to be roughstalk bluegrass. I had it before in my other ranks and tenacity does knock it back after a few applications. I think last year's dimension prevented deep rooting because they just pulled up real gently.

The middle zone...im not sure what to do with. Mist with round up while it's tall...? there is k bg in there I can see it. Mow it and tenacity bomb it? Let it go and try again this summer for that area? All are feasible really. I think I will be able to save the hill top and the bottom parts. I have two days of rain to think about it.

Sounds like it could actually be a cool experiment to try...if you break it up into sections and try each option on one section, and see how each one works out in the end!

The middle zone is a gonner.....i may be able to harvest plugs from a few spots....so I think 2/3 of last year's reno will survive....

At least I still have some decent areas to mow....

Sorry...not really the best pics. I may do a blanket app or two of tenacity to kills some weeds and maybe see what happens in the middle area which like light green and dark green camo mix

That was 1st cut after 5 days of rain. Supposed to rwin again tomorrow so dropped some fertilizer. I did a second cut today after all clippings dried in sun and bagged. KBG is seeding like crazy...especially in thinner areas.
