As expected, I was not able to get round 2 of RU down yesterday. Lots of rain today so it will be too wet for me to get it down tonight. The front and sides look very dead - I don't see any green in there, but will still plan for a second application to be safe. The back has a bit of green poking through so I suspect some stronger things made it through round 1.

Based on the current weather forecast, I should be able to get round 2 down tomorrow and Wednesday. Thursday and Friday may be wet, so I plan to scalp again on Saturday (the 12th)... then I'll be keeping an eye on the forecast for rain to pick the best seed down day (in an attempt to avoid any torrential downpours that would cause washout). I may consider one final scalp after the 12th depending on how things look (I don't anticipate any additional growth, but another pass of bagging shouldn't hurt to pick up anything loose).

While putting down my second round of RU, I've noticed some of these guys coming up - is anyone able to help me identify what these are?

I've been fallowing so it looks like that is paying off - a bit curious about what these are though, and if I need to be concerned about anything.

Thank you!

Continue on with my RU plan, or any other considerations/concerns?

If you have a lot of nutsedge I would consider how you use your tenacity at seed down. Glyphosate does a fairly poor job killing off nutsedge. Tenacity is great for it. Two things that I've done are apply the tenacity the night before and leave all watering off so it will be effective. Or you can do all the seed down stuff, spray your tenacity and let it sit for awhile 4-6 hours?
If you don't have a significant nutsedge problem, disregard.

I have a nutsedge problem and will be adding surfactant to my seed down Tenacity app. I am doing peat moss top dressing last so by the time I get that done, the Tenacity will have dried and absorbed into the nutsedge.

And yes, glyphosate is very poor on nutsedge.

This is so helpful. I'll continue to read up on Tenacity and hope for more input. Thanks all!

Thoughts on including tenacity with my final RU application? I'm 25% through with my second RU app, but considering holding off on the remaining 75% and doing tenacity + RU together.

Thoughts here:
Save on time!
Save on surfactant

Thanks for any and all input.

Need to finish app 2 of RU today. Going to just do the RU, and will do the Tenacity the day before seed down, since I wasn't able to confirm if I can mix Tenacity with my RU application today.

Lots of rain yesterday, and shrooms popping up here and there. Any concerns?

Lastly, I read a bit yesterday on Scotts starter with mesiotrone vs spraying Tenacity and it seems like there is not a definitive answer out there. I'd prefer granules because it's simply so, so, so much faster to apply - is the Tenacity is really much better?

Mushrooms are not a problem.

I prefer the Tenacity over the granular, but the difference isn't that big.

Thanks all for the input. Getting so close - I'm excited!

Andy, if the difference between Tenacity and Scotts + mesotrione isn't big, I'll go the Scott's route. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to get through a full spray application in 1 day, and I want to get through everything on 1 day for consistency when it comes to the days around seed down.

Side note - I must be the slowest sprayer ever. It takes me about 18 hours to do the full lawn with RU using a 5 gallon, battery powered backpack sprayer. And it's only ~7.5k sq. ft. Friends and wife always tease me about being overly thorough on things, so my guess is I'm wasting time trying to make things perfect while spraying...

I plan to complete 2nd app of RU today and maybe pick up my Scott's + mesotrione just to have it on hand. Need to start stockpiling the peat moss, too. I bought a compost spreader so that's on hand. I'm also starting to try to find where people are buying their urea so I can start building illy reserves for the aggressive fall regimen.

I guess I must move along -- the 16K backyard takes me about 75 minutes and that includes 3 refills of the 4-gallon backpack.

Aug, are you trying to spray a whole gallon of glyposate mix on 200 or 400 sq ft?

yes, slow I am!

So my sprayer is 5 gallons at max, and I'm using 2.5 oz glypho/gallon - I actually add in a bit extra so I end up closer to 16 oz of glypho in 5 gallons of water (3.2 oz/gal)

At 7.5k sq ft - closer to 8k now based on how far back I extended - I'm using probably 8 tanks. So 40 gallons total, and 128 oz of glypho - an entire jug :)

Yes, those who know me tease me for being too thorough :) I figure with glypho on a kill, I can't really over-do it, right? I'd hate to have missed spots in the end. Peace of mind...

I will say, I spent a heck of a lot more $ on glypho than I should have

You used a gallon of RU for 7.5K? Jeez, I have over an acre surrounded by woods trying to invade, and my 2.5 gallon jug of Gly is still 80% full.

More like 2.25 gallons for 2 applications.

I think you far exceeded labeled annual maximums for glyphosate in one app. May want to apply more efficiently in the future.

Concerns beyond time and money?

I don't disagree whatsoever - but am curious to know if there are other concerns beyond the obvious. I haven't seen anything about over application of glypho but I may have missed it.

Who knows? The product has been labeled safe at specific application rates.

You've massively over applied. I'm doubtful anyone here can predict the results. But this makes me wonder if maybe you jumped into this renovation without truly knowing what you need to do to have success.
