ken-n-nancy, that is crazy. Had no idea. Peat would probably be a better option for this, as probasesteal is doing, but I have a woodworking shop and it was an excuse to empty my dust collection bin. Mixed with 2 parts topsoil and spread thinly, I'm not too concerned about it affecting the young grass, especially for how diligent I will be with N applications over the next year.

A few more picture updates. Day 26:

Much of my seed-starting experiment will be going in the front yard. Not too thrilled with how this area has turned out so far: Image

This area was completely saturated for the first 2 weeks, showed barely any germination, and now it's looking great:

Wait, so you already spread the wheelbarrow mixture?

This part threw me.

I started my seeds Monday, but haven't lifted the cover to look in the wheelbarrow yet.

I guess you could read that sentence as, "(since it will be) mixed..."

Yep, I don't think there's any reason to peek unless you want to check on the moisture level.

I peeked, and felt, the moisture level is good

Your germination is taking off, and it seems HoosierDaddy's is now too - must be something about this Indian summer we've had affecting germination. At least, that's my theory. The areas I overseeded a few weeks back are doing really well.

I'm guessing so, too. Soil and air temperatures have gone up since seed-down. I notice a significant difference in just a couple days at a time. I'm not stressing about the thin areas too much. I'll apply some of my sawdust/topsoil mixture in a few days. If they sprout, they sprout. If not, I have a few pots, and it will eventually fill in.

Day 28 additional pictures. Hell Strip is doing great and can probably use a cut soon.

Yeah I don't care if it comes in thin. I've proven I can coax that along. I still have large areas with no germination however. My saving grace if you can call it that is that I now have a 3500 sq ft plug farm to use on the front if necessary since my Bewitched monostand dreams are dashed.

Don't mean to hijack your Reno thread. But...

Here is my pre-germinated seed, I put it out yesterday, covered with peat and water. TTTF seed

Nice! I spread mine yesterday, but it will take a little longer to fully sprout. I've mowed twice, applied a second round of Tenacity yesterday, and applied about 0.3 lb/N with 13-13-13 fert. I forgot to turn off the irrigation, so hopefully the Tenacity application wasn't completely wasted - sprinklers turned on about 2 hours after I applied Tenacity.

Here are Day 33 pictures. Still have some work to do in the thin areas, but diligent mowing and weekly N applications will help fill things in. I could probably transplant some pots now that the 90 degrees days are behind us.

It's been a brutal Indian summer. What - are we on 5 or 6 days of 90 degrees - the longest stretch since the 1891 I heard. :O

You should be fine. From Syngenta's FAQ on Tenacity:
Syngenta wrote:How rainfast is Tenacity?

Tenacity is rainfast within several hours under normal rainfall conditions.

Day 41 updates. I applied another 1/3 # K per 1,000 of 13-13-13 over the weekend, and have mowed a couple times over the past week. The area in the front yard with dirt is where the sawdust/dirt mixture germination experiment went. It has definitely germinated nicely. Minimal weed pressure - I went around with some WeedBGon, which knocked out most everything.

I'm HOPING that the Tenacity has only stressed my KBG, and that I don't have a TON of poa (3rd picture). The bleached grass blades are certainly an eyesore, and I don't remember that much bleaching in my previous reno.

Also, I bought a sod plugger for around $45 on Amazon. There are too many bare spots, and it seems like a very simple and easy way to get those bare spots to fill in quickly.

Did you get the ProPlugger? I planning on getting one for next spring.

Well, just logged in for the first time in a few months. Overall the reno was pretty successful. Some thin spots, but I'm sure they'll fill in just fine. I just called Kurt Anno at Target Specialty Products, and he's getting a pallet of commercial-grade Milorganite. I'm going to grab 10 bags and start dumping. He recommended that I apply another shot of starter fertilizer to aid the young grass in its root development.
