Please post updates as you guys progress thru this summer

Post by John_in_SC » July 4th, 2010, 12:45 pm

Hey all,

For those of us new to this whole thing.... to those of you who have renovated within the last 3 years or so....

How about some Late spring and summer updates as we progress into what is looking like its going to be a HOT long summer....

I am really curious about how these new lawns withstand the summer onslaught of Bugs, Disease, Weeds, and Drought....

Since NTEP won't post pix for us... I gotta ask you guys to do it for us...

Thanks

John

Hi John. My neighbor has received the same amount of rain as I have. 12" since April 1st, but you can see the difference clover, violets, goosegrass, poa triv, creeping bent, dandelions and 'contractors mix' looks like, compared to 10 month old KBG that is cared for.

If you've seen my blog, you've seen my photo updates. July's photo is probably the last one that'll show that sharp a difference between grasses as I allow it to go into dormancy (barring the rains coming back, which they may next week).

As of today, the back is shocking mildly as temps head over 95. We're going near or over 100 later this week.

Here's June before the heat. The area closest is from 2008 and the 1/2 closest to the house is from 2009. Cultivars are Bedazzled, Moonlight, Midnight 2. This heat is certainly gonna stress it some. Will post again later this month. Also many thanks to Andy and Morph for getting me on the right track with my soil. It helped the color a lot so far.

Here's the front lawn (elite KBG) after last week's heat wave. She lost some of her luster but she did okay. Every other lawn around me is toast.
