I am completing testing of something that will strongly encourage tillering, and if all goes well I will publish it in time for use in the Spring.
Oh very cool, I'll keep an eye out for your future post if it is successful.

Nice. Can't wait. I wonder if it's a spring regimen kinda like the Fall Regimen but geared specifically for spring time. I'm interested because my fall season is so short I think I can get better thickening and spreading in the spring/early summer. Just not enough sunlight in the fall.

Hey Greenrebellion how many days after seed down did you start your urea apps and at what rate did you apply. I'm just curious because I'm 26 days after seed down on my own reno have lots of tillering a height of 1 to 1 1/2 in and I was kind of under the assumption that I shouldn't start with urea or tenacity quite yet.

I started Urea at 21 days which was as soon as about 70% of the yard was tillering. If you are seeing tillering, I'd say you can start with Urea apps which should allow you to get 3 or 4 apps in before the end of the season.

I disagree with applying Urea by the number of days after seed-down/germination - all of the testing I've done for the Fall Nitrogen Regimen and Philes Regimen indicates that the best trigger for the use of Urea is the conclusion of Sprout-and-Pout and not a day count. The incidence of Damping-Off and Powdery Mildew infections is higher when the grass is not allowed to complete the (invisible!) root growth that occurs during Sprout-and-Pout. Applying Urea too early forces top-growth at the expenses of root growth.

As always, this is based on the "read the signs, and not the calendar" maxim. I've had KBG germination that continued to as late as Day 35, and if that's how the grass goes, that's how it goes...

I have to agree with andy. I'm currently at day 36 from my original seed down and I've been seeing new germination in areas that I didn't reseed up until now. Areas that I had given up on are turning green. The root growth during sprout and pout is key for grass survival. Like I mentioned in my post, KGB sprouts of mine that were leaving sprout and pout survived for a week without rainfall or irrigation likely because they had great root growth. Had I gotten impatient and hit them with fertilizer before I wasn't able to irrigate them I can guarantee they would be dead right now. I applied urea on a test portion of my yard but given what I've been seeing regarding new germination I may not get any urea apps in this year on the rest of the lawn save maybe the winterizer app. I'd rather have strong roots with a visually unappealing lawn this year than a cosmetically looking good lawn that will have trouble surviving the winter.

I guess it depends on how much late germination you are getting. I had an extremely high % of germination by Day 11'ish or so. But yes, KBG can continue to germinate as far as 4 weeks or so (maybe even longer) from seed down, in which case you should be more conservative on your Urea apps.

I am extremely new to this and I'm just trying to feel my way along and learn what signs to look for. With the number of days after seed down question I was just searching for a time frame reference this helps me learn. I do realize that every situation is different but I really don't have much confidence in what to look for yet and general time frames do help.

I did examine everything much closer today and although I do have lots of tillering and some approximately 2 inch seedlings I do have some new germination or not out of S&P probably 80/20 70/30 ish. So I'll probably hold off on any urea or tenacity for a little bit ( I really don't know how long I can hold off).

I would love to see some pics of your reno greenrebellion.

Ya, I'll try to get some picks up soon, it is tillering and filling in nicely already but it is under very heavy Tenacity bleaching right now so it looks pretty bad.

Day 47 - Here's a pic as promised. Still recovering from some Tenacity (4 apps at 2oz/acre and I'm done for year at this point) bleaching but it is thickening up very nicely and much faster than expected. I should have no problem bringing this thing home by Memorial Day.

I'm most likely going to throw dimension down today.

A little, not much. I used pre-emergent last fall at full rate and then it was a very wet fall, thinking most of it germinated then and died. The Tenacity treatments seemed to have eliminated most of what was left.

Switched to gas mower from the reel mower for the first time. Mowing at 3" for now and will probably do the final cut at 2.5". Everything is looking excellent out there. Tenacity bleaching has completely worn off, weed pressure is very minimal...looking forward to next Spring already so I can get this backyard to color up like the front yard is.
